Company B, Scots Irish Rifles, 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment

Company B, Scots Irish Rifles, 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment Living History with Christ in the Camp Anderson, Ramsuer, and Cox in the division commanded by D.H.

Mission:
The Mission of the Company is threefold, 1) to inform and educate the public about real history through living history events, encampments, demonstrations, parades, memorial services and other civic functions, 2) to build up and disciple young men and women in the faith of Jesus Christ through Company events, and 3) to enjoy family-friendly and family-inclusive recreation in an environmen

t and culture within the Company that gives open and unapologetic honor to Jesus Christ. Vehicle for the Mission:
We realize and achieve our mission through authentic and historically accurate living history portrayal of military and civilian life revolving around Company B of the 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment which served in the brigade commanded by G.B. Hill and Rodes in the Army of Northern Virginia over the course of the war. Our unique focus is the portrayal of an infantry company within the Army of Northern Virginia which has been profoundly impacted by the great Christian revivals that occurred during 1863-1864. Historical Impression:
Our historical presentation includes military drill and combat; life in a military camp during spring, summer or fall seasons; logistics and commissary related to supplying and feeding the soldiers; as well as camp followers with children, nurses, visitors to the camp, and women on the home front. Authenticity:
We strive for a historically accurate and authentic portrayal of military clothing, drill, weapons and civilian clothing. We also hold that historically accurate authentic living history must extend into an authentic and accurate portrayal of the environment, morals, ethics, values, attitudes, conduct, skills and accomplishments of the ordinary men and women who lived through the Civil War era. Therefore, while we understand that not all Americans were Christians, we believe that authenticity demands that the Christian principles that were interwoven into the cultural practices of the day must be part of a realistic and accurate portrayal of the times of the Civil War.

Report of Company Operations during April 29 - May 2, 2021, at Mahon Ranch near Elk Grove, California

Sir:
I have the honor of submitting a report on the recent actions of Company B, 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. I arrived at the designated assembly place at Mahon Ranch with advance elements of the company on the afternoon of Thursday, April 29, and established camp. My command was supplemented by members of other units, as well as artillery personnel. A sutler had set up shop in the civilian refugee camp nearby.

Our orders were to assist in the repelling attempts of the enemy to establish himself in the wooded country near the main thoroughfare on the east side of the Central Valley.

On April 30, we participated in educating the general public about the realities of combat and answering questions about the war in which we are presently engaged.

The remaining portions of the company arrived during the afternoon and evening of April 30 and established camp. We inducted two near recruits.

On May 1, we participated in two engagements with the enemy. In the first we participated in the flank attack that precipitated their surrender. In the second, we sustained heavy casualties in the attempt to push them out of the creek bed.

On May 2, we participated in the engagement that resulted in hand to hand combat in the creek bed in which all participants were either killed or wounded.

We buried out dead, tended to the wounded, and left to return to our picket post near Mariposa that evening.

I, sir, am your humble and obedient servant
Cpt. Scott Parish, Commanding
Company B, 4th North Carolina Infantry Regiment

P.S. I may be mistaken, but I am sure someone that looked just like you was marching as a private in the ranks of the 11th Virginia...was that you???
