Live at O'Leaver's

Live at O'Leaver's Live at O'Leaver's Promoting and Sharing music performed at O'Leaver's Pub in Omaha, Nebraska since 2013

One night, we were serving drinks at O’Leaver’s glorious volleyball shack, watching bands load their gear into O’Leaver’s pub across the parking lot and discussing how to make the experience at O’Leaver’s even more unique and fun. We decided we wanted to do something special to help promote as many of the bands as possible who play our room. We not only wanted to be able to use the recordings to k

eep promoting the bands after they had left the building, but also to provide recordings that the bands could share in order to book shows at other great venues here in Omaha and hopefully across the country. We slowly began accumulating equipment and started recording and mixing as many bands as possible. While we don’t have the resources to record every band who plays here, we have been able to record 100+ so far, adding more every week. At the launch of the site, we started with 30 and will be adding more every month. We hope you enjoy the bands and their recordings as much we do! Even better, we hope you will find some new bands to enjoy and support. Live at O’Leaver’s is:
Ian Aeillo
Matt Maginn
Ted Stevens
Chris Machmuller
Tim Kasher
Molly Misek
Ben Van Hoolandt
Luke Polipnick

What to do on this HOT Thursday? Stay inside and listen to music? Yeah! Outside will be way too much, like always. Here's a 27 song playlist which seems to be, I think, every cover song we've mixed here at Live at O'Leaver's. There's a few tracks on this playlist that haven't been released yet, so make sure to listen so you understand the importance of being the first to listen to new music before it's become super duper popular. Oh and who doesn't like a good cover? I'm sure someone, but I have yet to meet such a monster.

So anyway, here are a bunch of covers that have been performed at O'Leaver's with CJ Mills covering High Up, Rothsteen performing Adele, Dolores Diaz and the Standby Club taking on Bob Dylan, Johnathan Rice playing 'Oh La La' by The Faces, Fire Re****ed ripping through Ausmuteants, Eileen & the In-Betweens channeling Arcade Fire and just a whole bunch more.

You may have noticed a slight (okay, major) dropoff in releases from us recently. I'll spare you the details, but here's the gist; during an electrical storm, we happened to lose both our main and backup drives which we thought were safe as they were stored at separate locations. This means nearly everything from July to February has been lost. Whoops.

The data recovery companies we have contacted have all said the same thing; they will charge us money to possibly recover the data. A lot of money. A LOT of money. Since Live at O'Leaver's is a side project that we pay for from our own pockets, we sadly cannot afford to spend the $900+ these companies are asking for to maybe get the data back.

We have a better redundancy system in place now; multiple backups of each session spread across five drives placed in multiple locations and a cloud backup of the entire shebang. All told, we have over 11 terabytes of data since the February restart. That's a lot of data management.

So as a token of my honest and sincere apology, here's HEALER's sole remaining song from the pre-crash days; an anthemic and massive track performed by the quasi-supergroup in late October. Certainly one of the best sounding tracks we've put up.

Thanks again for listening. We'll have more for you soon.

Finishing up the mixes for the next release on Tuesday. While we are finishing the mixes, here's a peek at what we will be sharing. Bossa Nova, electronic indie pop with a Toychestra, and a super group of sorts.

Call off work on Tuesday. It'll be a good one.

Well, our songs are back online, thanks SoundCloud!

If you follow us on SoundCloud, you'll notice we post quite a few tracks that aren't immediately promoted on this page. Often when bands play a set after a Live at O'Leaver's release, we'll wait a few weeks or months to update it on this page as we have a lot of new stuff to share. Today we are sharing an updated playlist for our wonderfully insane friends in Universe Contest from their most recent show. Check us out on SoundCloud and enjoy UC yelling at your face about jackets and stuff.

Are you heading to South By Southwest this year? Oh boy. Lucky you. In case you were interestested, we've created a playlist of the bands that are playing SXSW that have also played at the club. We'll be adding their showtimes as we gather them. We spent yesterday remastering Kill County's performance for release on this playlist and there are two bands on this playlist we haven't yet released on the site. Enjoy!

Featuring Kill County, Xetas, previously unreleased Wild Powwers, Beach Slang, Small Houses, Universe Contest, previously unreleased BUHU, The Kickback, Bonehart Flannigan, Iska Dhaaf.

Did I miss you? Let me know and I'll throw you up on this list.

Prior to today, had we been running a series called Song Of The Week or whatever, the feature would immediately cease to exist after this release as this would henceforth be gifted the title of the song of every week. The Hottman Sisters performed at the club on January 30th for Take Cover and this shimmering, arching, and beautiful song was the result. I am incredibly excited for their return this Friday. Come hear Pleiades & the Bear, Justin Ready and the Echo Prairie, The Hottman Sisters because there might not be anything better than hearing this song performed live.

Our friends at Hear Nebraska hosted their wonderful Take Cover series at the club a month ago and we absolutely had a blast. We've collaborated with HN to provide audio for their videos, which they've already released and you can watch on their website. Today we are also releasing them so you can listen to them on the go (or stationary, we don't care).

CJ Mills, Uh Oh, Mint Wad W***y, and Hand Painted Police Car were among the 14 artists that took part in the Hear Nebraska benefit and released by them over the last few weeks. We also decided to mix Marcey Yates as Op2mus because oh my god it's so good.

Thanks to everyone who reached about the latest recordings, featuring full live sets from Head of Femur, Xetas and Mint Wad W***y! Three great sets from three awesome bands!

We wish we could always do full sets! It takes considerable time to complete each custom mix, tailored to each individual band’s size and set up, among other variables. With this time commitment, we are often only able to mix 3-5 songs when a show is successfully recorded. This is done at no cost to the band of course and hopefully helps promote the band’s next show here or elsewhere.

However, if a band would like to have their whole set mixed, we would like to help make that happen! Just reach out to Ian via [email protected]. He can best provide you with an idea of the time it would take and therefore what it would cost to mix the remainder of the set for you. Depending on the size of the band and length of the recording, prices can vary quite a bit so best to discuss directly with him. - MM
