The 2021 Dirty Dala event is CANCELLED.

Potential impact and severity of the COVID-19 Delta Variant over the next few months is uncertain. The Delta Variant is considered highly contagious, “hyper transmissible.”

This cancellation is not intended to be alarming, there are many other events that have sound safety procedures in place. The Dirty Dala cancellation was made solely by the promoter and director, the decision was made to err on the side of caution in order to avoid the possibility of being a future source of COVID-19 spread among the rural community and volunteer base.

Dirty Dala is staged near the amazing rural town of Olsburg and includes the surrounding community. Volunteers make the event successful and fun, volunteers make the event.

Olsburg relies heavily on volunteers for countless other vital community events.

Many Olsburg events include a highly energetic and productive volunteer core group, this group varies in age and therefore varies in vulnerability to illness. However, they are all integral to the success of events. They are all integral to the quality of life for the community’s youth and others of all ages.

These steadfast community volunteers contribute significantly to making Olsburg unique and special, and with the beautiful countryside, it is part of what Dirty Dala works to share with the gravel community.

Dirty Dala is an event for those passionate about gravel endurance cycling, it is also a fund-raiser for the Olsburg Community.

Potential risk to community individuals cannot outweigh the benefits from fund-raising. There are several aspects of this year’s Dirty Dala that would involve frequent unavoidable contact between participants and volunteers.

Our crucial volunteer support includes members that are ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTIONING OF ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES OF OLSBURG, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR.

Olsburg is rural, it’s not that big, but it’s certainly full of great people. For 2021, unfortunately again, the gravel community will have to forego the Dirty Dala.

All those registered for Dirty Dala will be fully refunded, we understand your disappointment and know that your calendar will be affected. We didn’t want to wait while being hopeful only to possibly cancel at a later date; hopefully this timing will allow you to reschedule successfully.

Have a wonderful summer and fall season, be healthy, enjoy your rides.
Ride With Your Gravel Spirit.

Jay Jeffrey

We are honored once again to have Hammer Nutrition as an official Dirty Dala sponsor. This premiere world-recognized company has a simple mission: Help attain the highest degree of health and performance, using a holistic approach to nutrition and fueling.

Since the 2019 Dirty Dala inaugural event, Hammer hasn't hesitated to support this grassroots gravel event. They believe strongly in COMMUNITY SERVICE. In part, they do this by supporting small, local races ensuring opportunities for everybody to compete and practice in their chosen endurance sport.

Dirty Dala SAG/Aid Stations will be provisioned with Hammer’s HEED sports drink, and each rider will also receive a Hammer Gel and serving of Endurolytes Fizz in their registration packet.

For more information on these and other Hammer products, and to obtain supplies for training and racing, check out Hammer Nutrition at www.hammernutrition.com.
Hammer Nutrition

We’re big fans of their gels, single-serving packets of HEED, and also the Cola flavored Endurolytes Fizz tablets which have a touch of caffeine – and fizz, just like Coca Cola and Pepsi!

Our super-nice neighbors to the north in Marysville are still planning on running this year’s Pony Express Gravel Dash, with remaining spots quickly dwindling as the field has been restricted with a rider cap of 175 riders. They are also using a different start format to help with social distancing. Everybody who’s ever participated in this race loves it! *And you have a chance to win a Lauf True Grit frameset :-)

The 2020 Dirty Dala has been canceled due to the consistent daily reports regarding the dynamic nature of Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and spread of the COVID-19 disease.

This morning a thorough review of available information was used in a Risk Assessment for Dirty Dala.

The safety and health of the gravel community is a primary concern.

We have been confident in our ability to host Dirty Dala and minimize any risk of spreading COVID-19 among participants.

However, over the last two days the probability of exposure to COVID-19 due to several variables is less certain.

The safety and health of the rural Olsburg community, surrounding communities, and EVERYBODY is our top priority.

The risk, even if extremely minimal and well-mitigated for, of having a single person contract COVID-19 or spread the Coronavirus to a volunteer or person within the Olsburg community -- due to Dirty Dala -- is personally unacceptable.

Although the disappointment is significant for us all, I believe the gravel community is partly what it is because of its big-heartedness and camaraderie.

This has been an extremely difficult decision. I wish for your understanding. I wish you good health, a fun gravel season, and tons of great rides!

Those already registered for Dirty Dala will receive information regarding deferrals.

Kindest Regards,
Jay Jeffrey
