Well, Great Escape Quilt Camp has been busy, busy, busy, and the latest pictures are from a camp that we just returned from on Monday, Oct 13th.

Friendship Guild members stayed 4 nights at a beautiful and spacious home between Ridgway and Ouray. We had 7 overnight campers, 4 day campers and 2 staff that enjoyed each other and the wonderful surroundings for 4 1/2 days of non-stop sewing, visiting and laughter.

Take a peek at the pictures listed below and see what all the excitement and entertainment were about. This is a venue that begs a repeat visit. With this much room, (~ 9,000 sq ft )we were able to spread out and not be cramped at all. Windows, tables, wall space and outlets were plentiful! All of which are crucial to a quilters creative juices. lol

Meals were a delight to prepare, and the campers declared they were super tasty. The dinner conversation topics were vast and the laughter and giggles were non-stop. And let it be known, Lori Perpar does a terrific imitation of Tim Conway!! If you had popped in for a minute, you might have even heard a number of us singing tunes from different Disney movies! :-D

All in all, it was a wonderful time and we all left with smiles on our faces.

Can't wait for the next Great Escape! Hope you can join us!!

Gracious! How time flies by these days. Can it truly be that I've not posted to here for over a month? Shame on me!

But! I must say that some totally awesome things have been happening since the last post!!

Great Escape now has a website!! It is up and running and filling out more and more every day! Pop over there and take a peak! Glenda Davis has done an awesome job of putting it together for us and I couldn't be more pleased. As time goes on, keep checking back to see the new things we've added because events and camps are being finalized and added frequently. The rest of 2014 is shaping up nicely and we will soon be adding some 2015 events as well.

Rosella and I have been pretty busy lately, not only with our own personal businesses, (Rosella's Legacy Quilt Studio and Melody's Signature Embroidery and Quilting), but we've also recently returned from HMQS in Salt Lake City where an incredible amount of learning was stuffed into nearly every waking moment. It was awesome!!! Laurene Farley of Peacock Quilting was our travel companion, and I can tell you, we all had a blast!!

I'll be back soon, with more fun stuff to share.

Until then---Happy Stitchin' !!

Wow! I can hardly believe that a whole week has passed since our last Day Camp at Great Escape Rivergate! There was lots and lots of chatter, giggling and creating going on, as always. We also enjoyed some extra yummy birthday cake for Glenda, some "Show and Tell" of a few quilt tops and lots of sewing and planning. We even got out of our comfort zones, stretched our scope of color and design, and dreamed of things in our individual quilting futures.

The first 2 pics are of Rosella Grasha's spin on the classic Clambones pattern which was featured in out last post. She is using primitive fabrics and boy does her alternate setting give the design a completely different feel. Picture 3 and 4 are of Rebekah Lansdown and Glenda Davis, respectively, putting their beginning "clams" on the design wall.

Pic 5 shows Carolyn Casedy hard at work on her appliqué project. She showed us the pieced blocks and then the appliquéd ones. She's almost done, and I have to say, when it's all done, it will be stunning! Her goal is a mighty one, and she looks to be very close to the finish line! Hurray for Carolyn!!

Pic 6 is of Rebekah, Mary Porter and Glenda taking a break to visit and enjoy some birthday cake. It was super yummy! I'm ready to have another slice!

Pic 7 is a top that Glenda shared with us and its a stunner! It's got an unmentionable amount of half square triangles. The larger triangles have an "I Spy" feel to them which makes you keep looking and looking to see what you'll find next. What a fun piece. It can live at my house any day. :-)

And finally, pics 8 & 9 are of two sample pieces that Melody put together to show at the next Great Escape teaching event for the charity quilting group that Maggie Cleeves has put together at Grace Community Church. Blocks are made from 7" squares set as Pinwheels and Square-In-A-Square tops. Totally fun and easy to make....no pattern necessary!

Great Escape is spooling up for some incredibly fun days in April. Sorry, the pun was just too cool not to make. :-)

Tomorrow has a work day planned for a hard working th*****me at Rivergate, and Sunday afternoon will be another Clambone gathering. April 11th will be class time for the Grace quilters, and the 25th will have us in Placerville. Nothing but fun, fun and more fun on the horizon! If you would like to join us at any of these adventures, just message Melody here, and we'll get you all set up.

Happy Quilting to you all!!!

My Oh My! What a wonderful weekend! Great Escape was quite busy over the weekend, enjoying the the companionship and laughter of our campers as we worked on a terrific variation of the age old "Log Cabin". It seemed extremely appropriate since we were meeting in a log cabin/classroom. The first photo here is a picture of our pattern, known as "Clambones". It's definitely addictive!

In other news for Great Escape Quilt Camp, there has been lots of planning and scheduling filling the time of the Camp Counselors. Many exciting things are shaping up on the calendar, and just as soon as we get the few remaining details ironed out, we will be posting the events here on Facebook, as well as sending e-flyers out to our current campers. Yes, this is a shameless teaser. ;-) And if you want to make sure you receive your personal copy of our events schedule, please message Melody to ensure she has your email for future reference.

We hope that everyone had a chance to celebrate National Quilting Day. Ours was delightful!

Until next time---Happy Quilting!!

Good Morning Monday!

We've been a little quiet here on the FB page, but that's not to say there haven't been some exciting things going on in the past several days. :-) Just now catching my breath so I can post a few pics to keep you up on the latest happenings!

Last week, Rosella and Melody met with an extremely talented quilter who has some amazing techniques to share. We are super excited to let you know that later in the year, most likely in the fall sometime, she will be teaching a class for a Great Escape Quilt Camp. Don't want to let too much out of the bag just yet, but suffice it to say, what she wants to teach is something that will truly change how you look at the world around you with an eye of how to bring what you see into your quilting. Very exciting! We'll keep you posted!

Friday of last week was extra special too. Rosella and Melody spent some time with a group of new and returning quilters and yarn crafters who are meeting to make things for mission and other charity needs. The following pictures show some of what was shared. Maggie Kleeves is the organizer of this group, and she is doing a terrific job of bringing these women together. As you scroll through the pictures, let us know what you think and leave a comment on the pic. We love hearing from you!

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! The sunshine here is glorious this morning. I hope you all get a chance to enjoy at least 15 minutes of it. Happy Quilting!!

Good Morning Sunday!
It's a beautiful day outside Olathe, CO at the Rivergate Escape location. Thought you all might enjoy taking a peak at what's on the design walls of the classroom here. :-)

The first pic is full of orphan blocks. Some are Melody's from projects she has made, but many are from what ended up on the "scrap pile" at the Placerville Day Camp held in February. Some of the ladies had brought along some of their personal scrap stash which they contributed to the pile for everyone to rummage through. Many of these orphans came out of that bounty. Many ask, what can you possibly do with all that mis-matched stuff? Well, they are all going into a quilt top and for right now, they will be on the design wall for a bit of time. Some will go here, some there, and a setting fabric or two....or twenty will be auditioned along side them to find the best fabric that can bring them all together. Stay tuned to see how it's coming along!

The second picture is of 49 pinwheels made from scraps. Pinwheels happen to be a favorite of Melody's, and she is in the process of working towards developing a pattern that involves lots of these and lots of scraps! Progress will be fun to watch. She will make sure to keep you updated as she goes along. And when it's completed, there will be a camp based on the pattern. Sounds like fun already!

And for the third picture, there are strips. From the Managing Your Scrap segment of the Mystery Scrap Day Camp from Placerville, Melody shared how she organizes her scraps for easy and quick use. One of the size strips she keeps handy is the 1" strips. As a demonstration on these, she has sewn together 4 different sets, each with 8 strips according to what she liked. From here, they will be cut into squares and then sewn together to form different blocks. Check back soon as these will be on the cutting table in the next few days and pics will be posted to show a couple different ways to set the squares for a variety of blocks.

Sew much fun----Can't wait to show you how it's going!

Have a wonderful week of creating!!!

Placerville ladies here, concentrating and really getting into their exercise of reaching outside of their comfort zones. They and jumped into putting fabrics together they didn't choose but were part of a packet of scraps we gave them to work with. The main focus was to learn the importance of color value vs coordinating fabric color. They all did a terrific job and we couldn't be more proud of how they embraced the lesson.

Hi Everyone!
Thought you all would like to take a peek at some of the work our Placerville quilters were working on at our camp last Friday.

The first picture is of the Ohio Star that Deree worked on. Here, Deree was auditioning the look of what different colored sashing strips would look like against her blocks.

The second picture is of Judy Kennedy's blocks. She set her blocks with no sashing between blocks, which inter-connects the blocks, creating a secondary pattern. Lots of interesting block interaction.

And our third picture is from Helen Dunlop. Helen put searched through our scraps and put together an Ohio Star block that paid tribute to the spirit of our gathering---Valentine's Day.

Everyone had a great time learning how to put fabrics together from scraps they hadn't brought. We hope to see many more blocks like these when we meet again at our next Placerville camp to expand on setting variations.

Great Job Ladies!!!

Here's a BIG shoutout to our Placerville Campers! We had a wonderful time on Friday with these ladies. The theme was "Mystery Scrap Quilt" and the table in front of the ladies is strewn with scrap fabrics. Some are cut in 4 & 5" squares while other pieces are cut in strips of various sizes, with still more of odd shapes and trimmings.

This class was very much of a concept teaching rather than a specific pattern. The counselors goal was to help inspire our campers to think not just outside the box, but beyond it...to learn how to prepare, store and manage their scrap stash in such a way as to have it readily available to use. Some of the blocks that were introduced to them included the Ohio Star, Square in a Square, 4-patch, and 9-patch. All of which concentrated largely on the contrasting value between light and dark fabrics rather than specific color ways.

We had such a fun time that Great Escape will be returning in several weeks to see what they all have put together, introduce a few more scrap options, and then we'll explore new ways to play with color by building our strata's for the following project--- a Bargello!

Follow along with us to see what we're up to. If there is anyone interested in joining this group, or having this camping experience come to them in their area, message Melody here and she will get back to you about the logistics of it all.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Wow! It's just two more days until the next Great Escape Quilt Camp event. Rosella and Melody are busy, busy, busy getting everything ready for an extra fun day in Placerville, CO. The theme of the gathering is "Mystery Scrap Quilting", where we will help our campers organize their scrap stashes, scratch the surface of how to use 4" & 5" squares and share great tips on getting into the habit of using our scraps with abandon! Oh, and of course fun and fellowship are most definitely on the agenda!

Below are a few pics of Melody's progress in getting her scrap stash whipped into shape. :-) The first pic is the ironed content of her last scrap tote awaiting trimming. The second pic is of the previous totes trimmed scraps neatly waiting for their storage bins, and lastly---it's the crumbs. It's a tote with smallish, odd sized pieces that can be used for leaders & enders (learn about this at camp), long narrow pieces to start stripy squares, or odd shapes for those crazy quilt squares.

Oh, the possibilities are endless!

We still have room for anyone interested in joining us in Placerville. Message Melody here and she'll get back to you with registration information.

Happy Scrapping!
