Come one, come all to the first *hopefully* annual Red Dirt Poet’s Pride Pool Party & Picnic. 🌈 Join us for sun, fun, queerness, and allyship. 🌞Food will be provided by the board however, if you have specific dietary restrictions please bring your own dinner. (We’ll do hotdogs and various sides.) Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, and a towel! 💸 We are asking a suggested donation of $10 to cover the cost of the pool rental but we want you to come whether or not you can donate!

Red Dirt Poetry is bringing its poetic flavor to OK Cider for an afternoon of writing and performing! Join us on Saturday, August 8th, as Gabrielle Grant leads a poetry workshop based on using personal items as inspiration. Do you have a photo, letter, trinket, piece of jewelry, etc, that is begging to be written about? Bring it with you! After the workshop, we'll have an open mic where you can share your new stuff, or bring something old you want to share with the room. The workshop kicks off at 4:30 PM, and the cost is free! Join us as we raise our pens and our glasses and get to know each other through our words!

Come on down to Norman on Saturday, June 20, from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate Pride poolside with all of us Dirty Queerdos! 🏳️‍🌈

Bring a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, and dinner if you have dietary restrictions. The board will provide picnic/BBQ style food. 🌭

We have a recommended donation of $10 to cover the pool rental, but we want you to come whether or not you can donate! 💵

Since this event is located in Norman, we are making an effort to carpool from the Paseo. Please DM to arrange transportation. 🚗

You must RSVP by June 18 to attend. Secure your spot in the Red Dirt Discord, DM , or just tell any Boardie in person at the next open mic if you’d like to come. Hope to see you all there! FOR REAL, YOU MUST RSVP! 🗳️

This month’s Red Dirt Writes takes place on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Literati Press in the Paseo. Laura Walter will lead a free writing workshop on using the three voices of poetry to craft a poem. Bring your notebook & a writing utensil. 📓

The Three Voices of Poetry - Pivoting Perspective 3️⃣

This workshop will explore the three distinct voices used in poetry - writing to one’s self, addressing an audience, and creating a dramatic character. We’ll practice pivoting our perspective to transform our innermost thoughts into multi-dimensional works and captivating storytelling. This framework is used frequently by poets and songwriters but requires no previous writing experience! 📝

Laura Walter is a proud Oklahoma City native who has fostered a lifelong love of the written word. She actively continues to grow and share her craft through the support of the Red Dirt Poetry community. 📕

Ways To Title Poems 📜

In this workshop, we’ll discuss the impact titles have on poems, explore 10 poem title categories, and write in response to some wild titles. We’ll conclude by titling some poems. 📝

Jason Stephenson taught English and creative writing for thirteen years and now supports English teachers in his role at Oklahoma’s state education agency. A product of southeastern Oklahoma, Jason began attending Red Dirt Poetry open mics in 2017, and currently serves as the co-director of education. 🍎

This workshop will showcase basic and creative revision techniques to transform your poems. Bring some of your poems in progress, or show up and use some poems provided! There will be time for writing at the workshop. 📝
