📜 HISTORY SPOTLIGHT: John W. Lambert — Farmer, Inventor, Automotive Pioneer

Our small Maumee Valley village helped shape big American history.

Before building America’s first gasoline-powered automobiles, John W. Lambert was already making waves in agriculture.

🌽 At just 16, Lambert patented a three-seed corn planter — a revolutionary design that dropped three kernels with consistent spacing, cut down wasted seed, and helped farmers boost yields at a time when planting was slow and labor-intensive. He manufactured and sold this planter nationwide, and the profits from that invention helped fund his future experiments with engines and machinery.

🚜 Success in farming tech gave him the freedom to innovate.

In 1891, Lambert built and drove what many historians recognize as America’s first practical gasoline automobile — a vehicle tested and run on the streets of Ohio City years before most others in the U.S. did.

🚗 That same year, driving his gasoline buggy, Lambert was involved in what is believed to be the first automobile accident in United States history when the car struck a tree root and hit a hitching post — right here in Ohio City.

Today, Ohio City proudly remembers Lambert’s legacy. 🎉

Each year, Lambert Days — held on the third full weekend in July — celebrates his impact with a car show, parade, and community events honoring his contributions to agriculture and automotive history.

Lambert Days "Blast from the Past"

These are the men who shaped Scott’s musical journey more than anyone else, and he carries a deep sense of gratitude for them. He truly believes that without the Delgados, he may never have become a musician at all.

Bob patiently showed him his very first chords, opening a door that changed his life. From there, Scott had the incredible privilege of playing alongside both Bob and Jim in several bands over the years — covering everything from oldies and classic rock to mariachi music, and even performing in a Civil War reenactment trio. Every note, every stage, and every memory traces back to the foundation these two brothers gave him.

Scott says his love for music was born from their generosity, guidance, and friendship — and he will always be thankful for the role they played in his life.
