Succulents and glass beads have something in common. Radial Symmetry. Or in the case of the hand drawn Flamework bead, attempted radial symmetry. Opposed thumbs (and brains synced to them) allow humans to rotate objects, including steel rods (mandrels) used as hand-turned armatures to form a bead, one mesmerizing molten layer after another. The beautiful almost magical physics of RADIAL DYNAMICS allows this. That is, enabling bead spinner/winder/maker flameworkers (as well as glass blowers using spin-able blow pipes and punties) to leverage intrinsic human musculoskeletal abilities to produce breathtakingly special results. We homo faber human makers do this leveraging across the board, i think, in design, in mechanics, in language, in cooking, gardening, in surgery, in you name it, to accomplish pretty much everything we have and do. One might have to squint their imaginative eye a little to see this, but I think there’s some kind of a through line through all of this.
