Happy Fourth of July! Come join us for the Oakboro parade and celebration today. The parade starts at nine with the fairground open from 11 to 2, and then again from 5 to 1130 with fireworks starting at 11:3. Be sure to stop by the Make “Mia” Cake trailer at the fairground and the Cake Boat on Lake Tillery between 1 and 4

Oakboro July 4th Fireworks. If you missed them last night, come back tonight at 6pm, enjoy some good food, good music, and stay for the fireworks at 11:30! Don't believe everything you hear on social media. There was an incident last night. It could have been worse than it was but it wasn't. The same type of thing could have happened at Walmart, a local restaurant or even the gas station. Our local law officials did what they felt they needed to do to handle it. An alert was sent out and people are criticizing because they felt it wasn't accurate. Your smoke alarm goes off in the house over some greasy bacon. Do you get mad because there wasn't a fire? It was a decision made at a time to try and protect a crowd of people. I was there as a vendor and remained there for an hour after the event to close up our trailer. I saw a few people running but most people walked quickly to their cars and left in an orderly and responsible manner. I'm just thankful that everyone is safe and no one was injured in any fashion.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your cooperation tonight with our evacuation. There was no active shooter or shooting of any type tonight. Out of an abundance of caution, we closed early. Two suspects were detained so there is no threat to the public. Please come back tomorrow night for our final night of the celebration.
