Holy Cow!
Time flies all the time, and with the pace of life at times, sometimes it seems to go even faster!
The second Oakboro Cruise-in of 2026 is THIS FRIDAY! I honestly didn't realize it until a few hours ago!
We all desperately need rain, but if it isn't going to rain, we may as well have some great weather to cruise in!
Once again, we thank you for your support and cooperation as this event seems to just keep getting bigger each month!
I'll be brief.
Park close. The more cars we park, the more people we can accommodate. Having "almost" enough room for another car, but not quite, between you and the next car is too much. Be considerate please.
Support the local businesses and respect their parking. When they close... (The daycare beside Penny's has ok'd Cruisers to park in front of their business AFTER 4PM).
Well behaved dogs on leashes are welcome. Well behaved dog owners who clean up after their well behaved dogs are also welcome.
Finally...
Take pictures and post them (tag us)
Make new friends.
Ask questions if you have them.
Enjoy every day.
Life goes fast. Don't waste your life chasing a life only to one day realize you missed the life you had while chasing the life you thought you had to have.
We hope to see you this Friday, the fourth Friday of April at the oldest Cruise-in in the Southeast. The Oakboro Cruise-In!

On Friday, January 16 from 3–5 PM, the community is invited to gather in Downtown Mooresville to honor the life and legacy of Greg Biffle, a man who gave so much to motorsports and whose impact reached far beyond the track.

Greg’s passion for racing was matched only by his generous heart. He lived with intensity, purpose, and a deep love for his family and community. As we remember Greg, Cleetus McFarland will perform a tribute burnout near his NC Auto Racing Walk of Fame star, a meaningful farewell that reflects the spirit in which he lived.

Guests are also invited to view a special collection of Greg Biffle racing memorabilia, supported by the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame. In addition, the memorial will pay tribute to the philanthropic legacy of the Biffle family by highlighting the American Red Cross and Lake Norman Humane - LKNH, two organizations that Greg, Cristina, and their family cared deeply about and supported together.

This gathering is an opportunity to honor Greg’s remarkable life while also recognizing the compassion and generosity that defined his family’s lasting impact on our community.

Happy New Years Oakboro Cruisers, and to ALL Cruisers everywhere!
As we go through these winter months, a lot of folks are making repairs,.adding final touches and some are a few months closer to.cometing the project, and some of those still have years to go! Good luck to all!
As always, we will cruise in Oakboro on the 4th Friday of each.month, March through October.
I'll post more on the Cruise-in in the next couple of months.
I've recently been contacted by someone wanting to resto-mod a late 30's car. They want to be involved in the process, but like many of us, they lack equipment, knowledge, etc. There is also the cost factor. They want a good product but can't just write a blank check for it. Anyhow. If you or someone you know would be interested in helping with, (and getting paid for) and getting involved with such a.project. please email us here at [email protected] and we will pass it along.
Thanks everyone! See you soon!

Here is the Obituary and Celebration of Life Service schedule for Jerry Wayne Crayton, Sr. Many have asked to share with friends and cruise -in family.

Jerry Wavne Crayton, Sr. was born on July 7, 1940, to his parents Flovd and
Viola Cravton in their family home in Mission. He attended Ridgecrest School
from the 1st-12th grade.

After graduation from High School, he attended Auto Diesel School in
Nashville Tn. where he graduated in 1959. He returned to Stanly County and
began working at Confederate Motors in Albemarle

He went on an outing with some of his buddies to Putt Putt in Albemarle
where he met the love of his life Agnes. After meeting her, he told his buddies,
"I'm going to marry her"; which he did on February 26, 1960, in the home of
her parents, attended bv familv and friends.

He took on an Auto Mechanics teaching iob at West Stanly High School where
he taught students for 32 vears and worked in the summers alongside his
older brother Keith for his company Crayton Electric Company. After retiring
from his teaching position he was employed by TCC, Inc. in 2016 as a private
contractor to refurbish properties for the company for 7 years, until the
business was sold.

In 2003 Jerry and Agnes opened Mimi and Pop's Antique shops in Oakboro,
Salisbury and Tennessee. Because he was an avid collector of cars, it was
during this time that Jerry had a vision of starting up what he would call The
Cruise In, to take place in Oakboro, NC.

Jerry had numerous accomplishments in his life, and one of the biggest was
later in his life when he started the Oakboro Cruise In. Years earlier his dream
for the Oakboro Cruise In, not a simple car show or swap meet, but a place
and time where folks could come with their families and meet other car, truck
motorcycle and customer car enthusiast to show off their vehicle's. discuss
their dreams and ideas with each other. He wanted it to be a place where folks
could come out and enjoy good, clean small-town fun.

Since that humble beginning, Jerry's dream has turned into one of the largest
Cruise In events in the state, if not the southeast.

Because of his incredible vision and accomplishment with The Cruise ln, the Mayor of Oakboro, NC declared by proclamation on Saturday October 23 2023, that this would be "Jerry Crayton, Sr. Day" in the town to honor him as the founding father of The Oakboro Cruise In. He received a gold plaque and a commemorative wall clock with The Cruise In 20th Anniversary Logo. The Mayor, City Council and County Commissioner members were present at the presentation of these awards of recognition and appreciation.

On 11/1/2025 at 5:08am at Atrium Health Concord, NC, God called His servant, Jerry Crayton, Sr. home.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Agnes Crayton and his son Jerry Crayton, Jr.
His grandchildren, Mallory, Kyle and Madison Crayton; along with LeMond, Michael, Nathan and Chelsea. And numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Viola Crayton, Sisters Jackie Thompson and Peggy Smith, brothers Keith and Vance Crayton, and son John Crayton, and daughter in law, Tonya Crayton.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 2pm at Mission Church.

We here at the Oakboro Cruise-in are saddened to report that we lost our visionary, founder and friend. Jerry Crayton Sr. passed away Saturday morning.

Jerry had a lot of accomplishments in his life, and one of the biggest, especially in his later years was the success of his creation, the Oakboro Cruise-in.

I'm paraphrasing here, but years ago, when describing his dream for the future of the Oakboro Cruise-in, he told me that he wanted it to be like this: "This is not a car show. This is not a swap meet. This is a group of car, truck, custom and even motorcycle enthusiasts getting together to show off their cars, their dreams and to share ideas with each other.. we want the public to come out as well and enjoy good, clean, small town fun".

Jerry's dream has turned into the largest Cruise-in event in the state, if not the entire southeast.

Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle is serving the family. We will post the obituary and arrangements when they are complete. We (the Cruise-in committee) and family invite any Cruisers who would like to, to attend the service.

Thank you.
