Ever wonder where "trick or treat" actually started? While the exact origins are a mystery, it officially became a pop culture staple by 1951 thanks to the Peanuts comic strip and a classic 1952 Disney cartoon featuring Donald Duck! 🎃👻🍬

🎃 OAK HILL, LET’S MAKE NIGHTMARE ON MAIN AMAZING! 🎃

Calling all local businesses, organizations, community groups, and anyone who wants to be part of making Oak Hill a little more magical (and spooky)!

Oak Hill’s Nightmare on Main is happening October 24th, 6-9, and this year’s theme is GOOSEBUMPS! 👻📚

We would LOVE to have local businesses and community members get involved! Whether you want to set up, decorate, participate, sponsor, create something fun, or simply help make the night special, we want you there!
Following the Goosebumps theme is highly encouraged, but it is completely optional. Come up with something spooky, creative, fun, or uniquely YOU!

Best of all, participation is FREE. We want Nightmare on Main to be a fun, welcoming event for our entire community, especially our kids.
It takes a community to make events like this happen, and we are so grateful for everyone who helps make Oak Hill a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
Want to get involved?

Let’s come together, get creative, and make Nightmare on Main 2026 one to remember!

When everything feels heavy…
When our country needs direction…
When hope feels distant…

We pray.

The National Day of Prayer is a call to stand together—to lift up our nation, our leaders, our families, and our future.

No politics. No division.
Just people… coming together… seeking God.

Sheriff Frank Priddy and Chief Deputy Frankie Shelton are proud to announce that the “You Are Not Alone” Outreach will be coming to Oak Hill in April.

We would like to extend our appreciation to Oak Hill Mayor Charles Briscoe for reaching out to Sgt. B.J. Adkins about hosting the outreach event at the Oak Hill Amphitheater on April 17th from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Sgt. B.J. Adkins stated:

“I would personally like to thank Mayor Briscoe for the invitation and for partnering with us to bring the outreach to Oak Hill. We would also like to thank Chief Whisman of the Oak Hill Police Department for having an officer present during the event. Several resources from surrounding counties have already reached out and expressed interest in being part of this outreach.

Our outreach team, along with several organizations, peer specialists, volunteers, and others, will be there to provide resources and assistance to those in need on the spot. No questions. No judgment — just help. Whether someone is struggling with substance abuse, mental health challenges, homelessness, or other difficulties, we will continue to show up as one and help the next person in need.

When we come together, we make West Virginia stronger.”
