NEW session of Beginner Wheel with Debbie Hale begins on Monday! Recent addition to the schedule, and last course for 2026: October 19, 26 November 2, 9, 4:00-6:30PM.

In this beginner’s ceramics class, students will learn techniques to create forms on the potter’s wheel - cups, bowls, vessels, etc. You will learn the basics of the pottery studio, wheel throwing, glazing and firing.

The exhibition continues this year’s festivities honoring Featherstone Center for the Arts’ 30th anniversary with art by those who have helped the organization thrive.

Next week! Come get cozy at Featherstone while creating your own handmade book! In this mixed media workshop with Alisun Armstrong and Bricque Garber, you will create a collaged cover and bind unique, recycled interior pages within it. This workshop will offer you the guidance and all materials necessary to help you make a one-of-a-kind journal great for gifting; using as a guest book at your rental, wedding, or big event; or as a travelog of your adventures, or personal journal.

This Sunday! Come view Susan Garrett’s beautiful photography at the MV Film Center’s Feldman Family Artspace at her artist reception this Sunday, October 11th, from 1-3PM.

Susan’s work is up through October 18th at the Film Center. “Martha’s Vineyard is both my subject and inspiration. I am drawn to the Island landscapes, the changes in light, quiet roads, historic structures and shoreline moments. Through photography, I seek to capture not only the physical beauty of the Vineyard, but also its sense of stillness, character and enduring presence.”

Wednesdays this fall are fiber nights at Featherstone! In addition to our weekly Rug Hooking Open Studio from 3-6PM, we are now hosting an evening Assisted Knitting Open Studio from 5-7PM, offering guided assistance with projects and trouble shooting. It is a wonderful way to practice and improve skills or get help with a mistake or new technique.

Next week is our first Art Night of the season, with Autumnal Needle Felting from 5:30-7:30PM on October 14th. Then on October 28th we will host Yarn in the Art Barn from 4-7PM, with a variety of yarn for sale and an opportunity to connect with other knitters and fiber artists!

John Holladay’s Acrylic Painting class has moved to Friday mornings! Perfect your painting techniques during this weekly intermediate/advanced class. Bring a photograph or drawing for inspiration, and learn how to improve your composition, and use more dynamic color to give your work depth.

Our first Art Night this fall is two weeks away! Join us on Wednesday, October 14th from 5:30-7:30PM to learn the art of needle felting. Create an autumn themed pumpkin, leaf, acorn, or other small keepsake by forming wool into shape using barbed needles.

Come explore your creative side during this beginner friendly 2 hour evening workshop, while enjoying a glass of w**e or tea. Art Nights are a fun way to try something new with friends or in your own. Drinks and a light snack included, or bring your own!

We have a couple of spaces available in tomorrow’s very popular Beginner Rug Hooking Workshop! Get ready for fall and cozy weather while learning this wonderful craft with a great community of fiber artists.

Rug hooking is like painting with wool, in this class students will learn how to hand hook a 10”x10” mat. You will be given a variety of design options and will leave the session with linen backing with design and all the wool required to finish your 10” x 10” mat.

Island Hookers host a weekly Rug Hooking Open Studio on Wednesday evenings (3-6PM), which is also an excellent opportunity to work on projects and finish your first mat in a welcoming environment with assistance.

Join us today, Sunday, September 27th, from 4-6PM for the opening reception of Celebrating Featherstone’s Board & Instructors in the Francine Kelly Gallery.

For the final exhibition during our 30th Anniversary Year, we are celebrating the artwork of our instructors, staff, and board members past and present. Come see the varied work of 36 participating artists, showcasing 78 works including painting, photography, fiber art, mixed media, ceramics, and jewelry.
