About the North Liberty Citywide Garage Sales

For 35 years, North Liberty held its citywide garage sales in conjunction with the annual Fun Days celebration. Held the second weekend in June, Fun Days included a carnival and fundraisers for local nonprofits.

In 2014, citing a weakened bottom line, the planning committee canceled Fun Days indefinitely. In a Facebook group for local moms, a group of women lamented the loss of the citywide garage sales—the highlight of the weekend for many people.

Local resident Lydia Fine had only been a shopper at the sales in the past and saw several ways to improve the Garage Sale List process by incorporating technology and the internet. Fine took over the citywide garage sale list in 2015, and has been managing the master list of sales ever since. Erin Foster and Liz Pearson began volunteering in 2017, helping Lydia to manage communication around the event, including online promotion and social media.

Taking list submissions, distributing the list, managing the event website, and all promotion of the event is a 100% volunteer effort. We don’t receive funding from the city for this endeavor—that’s why printed copies of the list are not available at gas stations, like they were in the past.
