TJ100K March 12, 2016~ A 100K on the sweet single track trails of Walnut Creek Park south of Charlottesville, VA. Seven 8.9 mile loops with 7,000 feet of climb.

The Thomas Jefferson 100K will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2016. The course is designed along the lines of other well-established multiple-loop courses on the American ultra circuit. Races such as Javelina 100 in AZ, Rocky Raccoon in TX, and Umstead in NC provide runners with excellent opportunities to run long distances over trail without dealing with the complicated logistics of point-to-

point courses or single loop courses. While multiple loop courses require a certain amount of mental fortitude they are also wonderful ways for families, friends and spectators to enjoy the race experience along with the runners. The Thomas Jefferson 100K will provide runners with a challenging 100K course in a controlled, manageable environment. BENEFICIARY: The entire TJ100K course is run over the excellent singletrack trail network of Albemarle County's Walnut Creek Park. As such, all proceeds from the event will support trail development and maintenance in the Albemarle County Park System. RACE DIRECTOR: Andy Jones-Wilkins is a veteran ultrarunner and professional educator. In a running career spanning over two decades, AJW has run over 80 ultras and 29 100 mile races. It has been a long-term goal of his to direct his own race and the TJ100K is that race.

Dear TJ100K Friends,

After three great years on the trails of Walnut Creek Park I am afraid it's time for the Thomas Jefferson 100K to sail off into the sunset. As a result of a move, a job relocation, and shifting life circumstances it has become clear to me, as well as our wonderfully supportive team of volunteers from the Charlottesville Area Trail Runners and Crozet Running, that maintaining a race of this magnitude is no longer possible. On behalf of everyone involved in the TJ100k over this three year run we want to thank you and look forward to seeing you out on the trails again sometime real soon.

Yours,

AJW, John Andersen and the TJ100K team.

The course consists of a 8.9 mile loop that is repeated seven times, for a total of 62.3 miles. There are two aid stations per loop: one at the start/finish (with crew & drop bag access) and a second 4.2 miles into each loop.

Dear TJ100K Runners,

All systems are go for Saturday's training run at Walnut Creek Park starting from the Beach Parking Lot at 8am. The trails are a tad muddy and there are a few trees down but all in all things are in great shape. And, best of all, the weather report looks fantastic with forecast highs in the mid-60s. Looking forward to seeing some of you there for one, two, or three loops.

Dear TJ100K Runners,

Greetings from cold but not snowy Charlottesville! I went by the park yesterday and the trails are clear and in good shape. All systems are go for our February 20th training run.

We will meet at the beach parking area (the start/finish line of the race course) at 8am. We will all start together but may split into groups. You will have the option of running one loop, two loops or even three loops. Each loop is just under 9 miles. I will have a couple of water containers and a bit of food but feel free to bring some stuff to share with the group if you have a particular favorite. As of today the weather report for next Saturday is quite favorable but we'll keep an eye on it.

Good luck with your training and I look forward to seeing some of you next Saturday. As always, you can get race information at tj100k.com

Thanks.

Reposting this from the RD regarding the first training run cancellation:
Hey everyone, really sorry to cancel but the trails are too fragile at this point to run on. We work very hard in collaboration with the local Mountain Bike club to be good stewards of the Walnut Creek Trails and it will just be too messy this weekend. Hopefully, with a good thaw over the weekend we can re-schedule the training run for a later date.
