The West Essex High School Film Festival was founded by WEHS Senior, Greg Contaldi. Over the Summer of 2013, Contaldi took classes at Tisch School of the Arts and was fortunate enough to meet with award-winning filmmaker, Andrew Jenks. Jenks influenced Contaldi to create a film festival after telling him the story of when he created a festival at his high school at the age of 16. This year Senior
Stephanie Spero will be hosting the festival. She has been student council president for four years, and has taken many acting classes at LaGuardia Acting studio. She has produced many short films, and has written two full length screenplays. She is currently working with a production company to create films. She has also held lead and ensemble roles in the high school's plays and musicals. High School Students can submit short films in a variety of genres: Drama, Comedy, Animation, Documentary, Music Video, and West Essex Award. A panel of industry professionals will judge all submitted films and determine the winner of each category. All selected films will be screened in front of a live audience at the festival.
