May 27th is Founders Day for SWE, commemorated each year to celebrate the creation of a “unified, national Society of Women Engineers” on this date in 1950, with the founding sections being Philadelphia, Boston, NYC, and Washington DC.

This year, Philly SWE celebrates founding member Alma Forman’s 100th birthday. Born April 25, 1926, Alma is the first woman to earn a B.S. in Civil Engineering at Drexel (1949), was the driving and encouraging voice for Drexel students to form a women’s engineering conference, and served as the Drexel SWE section Faculty Advisor through 1995! Section members Jen Casta, Heather Bernardin, and Barb Faust were honored to join in Alma’s celebration last month.

SWE Philadelphia invites you to join our virtual event, “Beyond the Blueprint - Career Panel” with Globus Medical on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Featured Speakers:

Bianca Magsino is a product manager at Globus Medical working on the joint reconstruction team. She studied biomedical engineering at Drexel University and started her career as an engineer at CQ Medical before transitioning into product management in the medical device space. Over the past few years, she has worked at the intersection of engineering, operations, and commercial teams—supporting product development, launches, and working closely with surgeons in the field. Her path wasn’t a straight line, which is why she is especially excited to share her experience and talk about the different ways an engineering background can translate into roles beyond traditional engineering. In her free time, Bianca enjoys drinking coffee with a good book in her hand and hanging out with her husband and 2 dogs.

Emily Laubenstine is a Senior Quality Engineer at Globus Medical, where she supports a range of products including spine systems, trauma systems, and capital equipment. She has recently stepped into a leadership role, managing, and mentoring quality engineers. Emily earned her degree in Bioengineering from Lehigh University and is based in the Philadelphia area. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and running.

Amber Thomas is a Regulatory Specialist with over 5 years of experience in medical devices and pharmaceuticals. She holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University and is currently part of the US Regulatory Team at Globus Medical. Amber specializes in orthopedic medical devices and has experience in preparing and submitting regulatory submissions including 510k’s, Q-Submissions, Breakthrough Device Submissions, as well as HDE Supplements and Reports to the FDA. In her free time, she enjoys playing with
her two French Bulldogs, reading, crocheting, and watching Philly sports (especially the Flyers!).
