Norfolk Chamber Music Festival / Yale Summer School of Music Stellar concerts June-August. norfolkmusic.org Patrons are welcome to come early and enjoy a brookside picnic and enjoy the grounds.

Join us at the Music Shed on the historic Battell Stoeckel Estate for a season of spectacular chamber music featuring world-class artists and ensembles. We are so excited to welcome these 25 Fellows for Norfolk's Choral Workshop! They are led by Jeffrey Douma, conductor, and Jeffrey Grossman on harpsichord/piano. Their concert on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM (which is also the Norfolk Festival's 2026 season finale) will feature choral works spanning the Renaissance to the 21st century, including a world premiere work by Kacper Madejek.⁠

We said farewell to our Chamber Session Fellows this morning, and are reflecting back on the past week which included: the final two Emerging Artist Series concerts, the Ying Quartet, 4 Brandenburg Concerti, trivia night at Battell, paper plate superlatives, and a surprise early morning farewell visit to the Whitehouse and Melvin Chen, our festival director, before departures.♥️☀️😴

Congratulations to Norfolk alum Hilda Huang (NCMF '18, '19) on being awarded second prize in the 2026 Musica Antiqua (MA) Competition for harpsichord hosted in Bruges, Belgium! Hilda has also earned top prizes at Leipzig, Würzburg and Tureck International Bach Competitions, and you can hear her at the 2019 Festival playing harpsichord on Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no. 6 at the link down below. ⁠

It's the last week of the Chamber Music Session! There are two final Emerging Artist Series concerts; the Ying Quartet performing works by Haydn, Billy Childs, and Amy Beach's Piano Quintet with pianist and Festival Director Melvin Chen; and a selection of of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos featuring Festival Artists Stephen Taylor on oboe, and William Purvis on horn.

Last, but certainly not least, we end our "Mic'd" up series with Frank Morelli, Yale bassoon faculty, as he works through the first movement of "Mother Goose Suite," written by Ravel, and arranged for woodwind quintet by Professor Morelli himself! Although they won't be performing the Suite this week, you can catch them, and the rest of the Fellows as they perform in their last two Emerging Artist Series concerts this Thursday (8/13) and Saturday (8/15).

As we enter our final week of the Chamber Music Session, here’s look at some highlights from week 5: Emerging Artist Series concerts, the Horszwoski Trio's Music Shed debut; performances with James Austin Smith, Jesse Mills and Ole Akahoshi; the world premiere of Nahre Sol’s “Dust and Clover” in collaboration with BODE; and a ping pong tournament!🏓

We sat down with the Horszowski Trio (Jesse Mills, Rieko Aizawa, and Ole Akahoshi) to talk about their program as they make their Norfolk debut on the Music Shed stage Friday night. The program features a Viennese first half with a trio by Haydn; "Haydn Go Seek" by American composer William Bolcom; Schoenberg's "Six Little Pieces" arranged by the Trio's own Rieko Aizawa (piano); and concluding with the iconic Shostakovich piano trio.

Hear some snippets of the works in this video as they briefly introduce each. While Friday night (8/7) marks the Trio's Norfolk debut, its members are no strangers to the Festival. Violinist Jesse Mills and cellist Ole Akahoshi previously attended as Fellows, while pianist Rieko Aizawa and Akahoshi are returning Festival Artists.
