Prairie On Fire Backyard Ultra MTC's PRAIRIE ON FIRE, Central Indiana's first Backyard Ultra is back for the 2nd year. What is a Backyard Ultra?

Chances are, if you're here, you already know, but, in case you don't, here's a breakdown from the originators:

"Backyard ultra is a form of ultramarathon race where competitors must consecutively run the distance of 6706 meters (4.167 miles) in less than one hour. When each lap is completed, the remaining time within the hour is typically used to recover for the next hour’s race." Now, here's wh

The Prairie on Fire backyard ultra derives its name from a prominent park in central Indiana that hosts our event, Hamilton counties Koteewi Park. Pronounced ko-TAY-wee, Koteewi means “fire” and possibly “prairie” in the Miami-Peoria language. That etymology and the potential for a hot September day in Indiana created a perfect storm for us when naming this event. We couldn't be more excited to have the course at it's intended location with a beautiful gravel/dirt trail during the day and a paved trail in the evening. Thank you Hamilton County Parks and Recreation for partnering with us. This race will feature a very limited number of participants in effort to limit congestion on the trail, so sign up today!

First and foremost thank you all for the overwhelming support so far! Secondly, sorry for any inconvenience, but this venue is beautiful and it will provide us extra room for people who have not gotten tickets yet.

Our team is deeply thankful for the unwavering support of our participants, sponsors, families, and friends who show up year after year and help us make this event everything it is. As you begin mapping out your goals for 2026, we hope Prairie On Fire finds its way onto your race calendar. We plan to open registration sometime after the first of the year. We’re excited for the growth and success still ahead. Today, we’re sending a heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible running community near and far. Wishing everyone a warm and happy Thanksgiving!

Here is the race day schedule:

Saturday 8/6
6:00am - Remaining camp site/canopy setup continues at White River Campground

Note: You may come directly to the campground for setup the morning of, but, you'll need to move your vehicle to runner parking before the race begins.

6:00am - Minivan shuttles begin running from the runner parking area (11800 Koteewi Dr, Noblesville, IN 46060)

7:30am - Last Shuttles leave runner parking

7:40am - Pre-race discussion with Campground and Horse Stable team covering campground rules and trail rules when encountering horses.

8am - Yard 1 Begins

3pm: Packet pickup begins at Athletic Annex in Carmel (14405 Clay Terrace Blvd Ste 130, Carmel, IN 46032)

6:30pm: Canopy setup begins at White River Campground (11299 E 234th St, Cicero, IN 46034)

6:30pm: Pizza Dinner begins at White River Campground (this is sold out and only available to those who selected the option during registration).

10pm: Quiet hours begin at white river campground and setup must cease
