This clinic is held in Lasers, International 420's, Club 420's, and new for 2013, Bytes and multi-hull F16's. 2013 PROGRAM
The 3 ½ day program will consist of lectures and on-the-water drills with an emphasis on boat handling technique, boatspeed and strategy. This will be combined with information on what it takes to reach your goals in sailing. The Clinic is led by Head Coach John Mollicone, and involves a stellar group of collegiate, Olympic and professional coaches . The coaching team in the past has included Andrew Cambell, Bern Noack, Alice Maynard, Isabelle Kinsolving, Elizabeth Kratzig, Jonathon Farrar, Skip Whyte and Sally Barkow, as well as many others. The 2013 Coach Roster will be posted shortly and will include two coaches from the current US Olympic Sailing Team. On Saturday Night of the clinic, sailors are treated to a speaker from the highest levels of the sport. Prior speakers have included: Gary Jobson, Dean Brenner, 470 Gold Medalist Kevin Burnham, Olympic Team Member Katie McDowell, America's Cup veteran and Volvo Race Competitor Ken Read. The most important thing to remember is that when you get here at Sail Newport, there will be no reason to leave. Showers, food, spare parts, etc. Even locals will be required to stay on site for the full day. Our coaches want your undivided attention. The more you put into this clinic, the more you will advance because of it so we expect full commitment the sailor athletes! "These youth sailors ages receive the highest level coaching from some of the best trapeze dinghy and coaches in the country" says Brad Read, Executive Director of Sail Newport. "Emphasis is on speed producing factors and techniques that work on long courses where speed is at a premium."

A message from Head Coach John Mollicone:

The 12th Annual Sail Newport Advanced Racing Clinic in memory of Brooke E. Gonzalez, held June 13-16, was another great success with a record number of participants and near perfect weather. Great breezes ranging from 5-18 knots made for two great training days culminating with a southerly for the regatta day on Sunday.

Boat handling and boat speed were the focus for the first two days along with starts and races. 12 International 420s teams participated, 23 Club 420 teams, 26 Laser Radial sailors, and new fleets of seven Bytes and six F16 Catamarans rounded out the group of 116 sailors. Ranging in age the sailors traveled from 16 states and Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, England, and Singapore. Many of the nation's top sailors were in attendance to jumpstart their summer sailing and get some top-level coaching.
