When the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island needs someone to explain how American power operates in a fracturing world, they turn to Nikolas Gvosdev.

A Rhodes Scholar and Oxford-trained geopolitical analyst, Gvosdev holds the Captain Jerome E. Levy Chair in Economic Geography and National Security at the Naval War College. He also directs the National Security Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and edits Orbis, one of the field’s most respected journals. He was formerly Editor of The National Interest.

His work — published in Foreign Affairs and the Financial Times, and delivered before audiences on CNN, NPR, and the BBC — examines the relationship between American foreign policy, economic power, and the durability of strategic alliances.

This August, that conversation comes to Newport at the Newport Global Summit: an invitation-caliber gathering convening senior leaders across investment, diplomacy, and national security during America’s 250th anniversary year.

Most people working to fix American politics talk about it. Rye Barcott built an organization to do it.

As co-founder and CEO of With Honor, Barcott leads the country’s most consequential cross-partisan effort to reduce polarization by supporting principled veteran leadership in public office. Since 2018, the organization has helped elect more than 100 veterans and national security professionals — 50 of whom now serve in Congress — and has contributed to passing more than 200 bipartisan laws.
That work grows directly from Barcott’s own service. As a Marine Corps officer, he co-founded CFK Africa, a youth leadership and public health organization operating in Kibera, one of Nairobi’s largest informal settlements. His first book, It Happened on the Way to War, tells that story. His newest, Courage Can Save Us, profiles ten Americans fighting for the country’s future.

He holds an MBA and MPA from Harvard and a BA in Peace, War, and Defense from UNC Chapel Hill.

As co-founder of First Round Capital, founding president of Renaissance Technologies, and co-founder of Idealab, Morgan has been present at some of the defining inflection points of the modern technology economy. James C. Bly, Jr. has spent four decades at the intersection of family wealth, business succession, and institutional-grade governance.
