It happened!

Sabastian Sawe of Kenya ran the first sub-2:00 marathon on a record-eligible course at this morning’s London Marathon. Sawe’s winning time of 1:59:30 not only took 65 seconds off Kelvin Kiptum’s previous world record, but assures that his name will be legendary for as long as marathons are run.

This Earth Day, we’re taking a moment to highlight something we’re really proud of at the Amica Newport Marathon: how we’re working to make race day easier on the planet.

From reducing single-use plastics and switching to recyclable canned water, to composting, recycling stations, and sneaker donation programs, there are a lot of small choices that add up to a big impact. We also encourage runners and spectators to travel greener—walking, biking, or carpooling when they can.

And it doesn’t stop when the last runner crosses the finish line. One of the most important parts of race weekend is our post-race cleanup; we walk every inch of the course to pick up litter and make sure we leave Newport just as beautiful as we found it.

Because for us, sustainability isn’t a side project, it’s part of how we show up for this community. 🌎

WOW! We have a new Boston course record!!!! And crazy to see how we are inching closer to a sub-2-hour marathon year over year!

For the second consecutive year, John Korir surged in the Newton hills and ran unchallenged over the final 10K to win the Boston Marathon. The Kenyan bettered not only his winning time from last year but also the course record with his 2:01:52.
