Start your weekend off right at West Harlem Piers Park this Friday at our first Friday Night Jams of the season! Join us on the last Friday of the month for our musical get-happy hour, this month featuring Wes D'Alelio.
🎵🎵🎵
Wes D’Alelio is a New York City–based singer-songwriter, producer, & multi-instrumentalist who devotes his time to notating sheet music for Broadway musicals & touring artists, organizing concert events that showcase local songwriters at iconic NYC bar venues, & of course writing & producing his own original music. A Massachusetts native, Wes combines his New England acoustic roots with dense vocal harmonies, narratively-driven lyrics, & sampled percussion sounds in hopes of delivering a singular sort of mainstream acoustic pop music. He’s currently in the final stages of recording his debut EP “Chronically Online”, which is a collection of songs about the many ways in which technology & social media distract us from the sort of love & friendship that makes life so beautiful.
You can find him at on Instagram, @/WesMakesMusic on TikTok, & on all platforms if you’re interested in performing your own original music in NYC or supporting his efforts as a community organizer.

🎵🎵🎵
The Harmony Bartz Experience, led by Taifa “Harmony” Bartz, daughter of the esteemed jazz saxophonist and two-time Grammy winner Gary Bartz, is an explosion of straight ahead jazz, blues, neo-soul, R&B, and funk, with her jazz vocal stylings woven amongst every song. This band is one of the hottest in the tri-state area and they have performed at uptown venues such as the world renowned Minton’s, The Shrine and Patrick’s Place, at the long-running International African American Festival, the Fort Greene Jazz Festival, and the Old-Timer’s festival at Crotona Park in the Bronx.

Join Riverside Park Conservancy, artist Kenneth Doherty, and Artichoke Dance Company for an afternoon of dance performance and discussion, celebrating Earth Week. Dance performances held at 12pm and 2pm, with artist talk and presentation of the Conservancy’s sustainability initiatives in between.

Within the Waters, created by Lynn Neuman and performed by Artichoke Dance Company, is staged in conversation with Kenneth Doherty’s sculpture The Raft. A lush and dynamic ensemble dance, Within the Waters reflects on three themes: the realities of climate migration, the memories that water holds from what has occurred within it, and the resiliency of communities in the face of disaster.

Join us this Saturday where Akela Reason, art historian and professor of history at the University of Georgia, will discuss the complex history of the New York Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument in Riverside Park. Her talk derives from her recent book, Politics and Memory: Civil War Monuments in Gilded Age New York (Yale University Press). The book illuminates the historical context of Civil War soldiers’ monuments in New York City, exploring the fascinating intersection of art, politics, and memory within these works, while also highlighting the ever-changing ways different constituencies have engaged with them in symbolic and physical terms.
