Florida State of Emergency: Tropical Depression 9 to become Hurricane Ian
Governor DeSantis has declared a state of emergency covering 24 counties in Florida in order to prepare for Tropical Depression 9, which may strengthen to Hurricane Ian:https://www.flgov.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/EO-22-218.pdf
As of right now, South Florida is in the 5 day cone. Should the storm continue on its current path, the storm should make landfall midday on Monday. The storm is currently forecasted to make landfall in South Florida at Hurricane Strength!
Here are 5 things you can do to prepare now:
1. Find the hard copy of your insurance policy, or download a soft copy. Send an email to your carrier, agent, or broker, and request a certified copy of your policy if you do not have one.
2. Take pictures of your property, inside and out, to document conditions before any loss or damage occurs.
3. Stock the fridge and pantry, head to the grocery store or order delivery through Instacart, Uber Eats, peapod, etc. Make sure to get batteries and lanterns/flashlights in case you lose power. Store as much water as possible.
4. Fuel your car, and get extra if you have a generator.
5. Get cash at the atm in case of emergency.
