NFDC-produced, Goutam Ghose’s masterpiece stands as a definitive pillar of Indian art-house cinema, illustrating how deeply rooted local narratives can achieve universal resonance. This 1987 classic traversed the complicated intersections of tradition and mortality, earning its place on the prestigious global stage.

Its selection for the Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988 marked a significant moment for Indian filmmakers, proving that authentic storytelling transcends borders. This international acclaim was further solidified when the film secured the Grand Prix (Golden Semurg) at the Tashkent Film Festival, cementing Ghose’s reputation as a visionary director.

Today, we celebrate Antarjali Yatra not just as a film but as a testament to the enduring power of the “Parallel Cinema” movement in India.

6e édition, 8e édition, 9e édition…
Le Festival n’avait pas dix ans que Brigitte Bardot lui prêtait déjà son visage. Celui d’une jeunesse blonde et libre, virevoltant avec légèreté sur la plage, offrant son regard charbon aux photographes fascinés par l’insolence d’une telle beauté. En réalité, celle qui portait les initiales B.B. ne fréquenta pas si souvent le Palais. Mais sa présence fut l’objet d’un tel désir qu’il marqua durablement l’histoire du Festival. En le nimbant de glamour, elle y laissa aussi l’empreinte de l’une des plus mémorables émeutes de son histoire… L’an dernier, sur cette même plage peut-être, où la starlette est devenue une légende, était projeté le documentaire d’Alain Berliner, Bardot. L’occasion d’entendre une dernière fois la voix inimitable de l’actrice évoquer son destin et ses engagements. Aujourd’hui, alors que Brigitte Bardot s’est éteinte, le Festival salue une apparition qui, bien au-delà de ses passages cannois, a inscrit son nom dans l’imaginaire du cinéma et de la société française.
