The German and the British won the award for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group”, this for the song "Unholy".
Thus, Petras becomes the first transgender woman to win this category at the Grammys!
Sam Smith let Kim Petras accept the award.
In her speech, she thanked Smith for supporting her, and gave credit to the trans women in music who came before her.
She specifically thanked legendary Grammy-nominated producer and electronic artist SOPHIE, who sadly passed away in 2021.
She also thanked for fighting for LGBTQ rights, saying "I don't think I could be here without Madonna."
