Introducing our artists – Ana Isabella España, violin
Ana Isabella España is a 17-year-old violinist from New York City. She began her musical journey at age four at Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. She attends the Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School, where she has studied with Ms. Lynelle Smith since kindergarten. She also receives private instruction from Professor Masao Kawasaki at The Juilliard School and studies orchestral excerpts with Ms. Julia Choi from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Ana Isabella's talent has earned her accolades such as First Prize at the Junior Division of the 2024 Sphinx Competition, the National Silver Prize at the 2023 MTNA Senior Strings Competition, and a 2023 YoungArts Award in Classical Music/Violin. She has received masterclasses and lessons from Midori, Miriam Fried, Ani Kavafian, Grigory Kalinovsky, Ilya Kaler, James Buswell, Cristiano Gualco, and others.
Ana Isabella’s personal warmth and musical passion have mesmerized audiences nationwide with solo performances, including her debut with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra at Kleinhans Music Hall, and appearances on NPR's From the Top, Good Morning America, Telemundo, and on The Kelly Clarkson Show, alongside maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin, performing Florence Price’s Fantasy No. 2 in F-sharp minor and discussing her co-authored book, “Who is Florence Price?”
