Gen Z may have a Peter Pan reputation—but it’s also saving a lot of money.

“Gen Z does seem to be a financially savvy and hypercautious bunch. A 2024 Charles Schwab survey found that the average Zoomer started saving at age 18, younger than other generations had. (The typical Boomer, for comparison, began at 34.) Nearly half are investing, and most began that before age 20. According to a study by the Investment Company Institute and the University of Chicago, which adjusted for inflation, Gen Z households have nearly three times more assets in defined-contribution retirement accounts than Gen X households did at the same age.”

“Segmentation happens when we separate our lives into things we think about and things we do not think about, places we go and places we do not go, topics we discuss and those that are off limits. It often rears its head during challenging times. If a couple ignores a source of conflict within their relationship, they drive a wedge into it, cordoning off that topic with a “no entry” sign. When a leader perceives an employee’s concern about organizational change as “negative” (rather than a signal that the employee is invested in their job) they erode psychological safety in the workplace. But reliance on segmentation is unsustainable.

It doesn’t match our lived reality, where life’s darkest and most joyful moments, interwoven, are its beauty.” -Susan David

As people became more afraid over the past decades due to feelings of a less safe society , kids playing alone basically got erased. The iphone became their new best friend.

Children who were raised on screens need more freedom out in the real world.
