Daytona Beach Earth Day Festival

Daytona Beach Earth Day Festival A hub for green-minded people in Daytona Beach and beyond. Not just on the day itself but throughout the year ... !

Use this page year-round to gather and share green news from Daytona Beach and the world. Let's make it ! Now, here's a bit about the actual Earth Day Festival in Daytona Beach:

On Sunday, April 22, 2012, The Chiles Academy, located at the old Bonner Elementary School at 868 George W. Engram Boulevard in Daytona Beach, hosted a Daytona Beach Earth Day Festival from 12:00 - 8:00

p.m. The 2012 Earth Day Festival supported The Bonner Center Community Garden project. Local farmers, merchants, and businesses provided food, live music, and workshops throughout the day.

2012 was the last year (to the best of my knowledge) that Daytona Beach had an official Earth Day festival. The 2012 logo, and the refreshed version for 2015, were designed by Jenny Nazak Art & Design www.jennynazak.com

The artwork used in this logo comes from 'Sunrise Over Daytona Beach' by Stephanie Gassman. Stephanie is a Sarasota-based artist and her "Sunrise" piece is hanging in the Ocean Center. Want to make an official Daytona Beach Earth Day festival happen this year? Use this page to share your thoughts, and also to post Earth Day events for adjacent towns. Ormond Beach, Flagler, New Smyrna, Port Orange, DeLand, and any other nearby towns I haven't mentioned -- you're welcome to post your events on this page!

"With a blessing from a priest and a press of some buttons from the mayor, Flagler Beach's new glass recycling machine started breaking down bottles into glass mulch and fine sand-like particles.

"The machine, nicknamed “Big Blue,” was the center of attention during an event on Thursday, the day before Earth Day, at the city's wastewater treatment plant. City commissioners and staff, as well as the public and the press, attended.

"People took home samples of recycled glass and a piece of cake inscribed with the city seal and the words “Thank you for celebrating the arrival of 'Big Blue'! Honoring Earth Day 2022,” which was Friday.

"City Manager William Whitson said the machine was a great addition to Flagler Beach, which will begin curbside glass recycling on May 4.

"“This is a major step forward for the city of Flagler Beach and, as far as we know, this is the only active glass recycling machine in the state of Florida,” Whitson said."
