MCNY Annual Short Film Festival

This festival grew out of a classroom assignment on organizational behavior and has crystallized into an annual platform for burgeoning filmmakers and business leaders that simultaneously provide an opportunity for our Media Management MBA students to develop and master real time media project management skills and experience. Our students work for months prior to the festival, in class and on the

ir own, on branding and positioning the festival, securing sponsors and speakers, promotions, and soliciting and judging films as part of the various required business and organizational activities leading up to the festival. Our Industry Panels are an opportunity for filmmakers to hear from leaders and experts in media discuss the rapid changes occurring in the film industry and ancillary markets in light of convergence, globalization and digitization. It is our particular goal to also provide our students, filmmakers and guests with information about current issues in modeling, securing financing and distribution of films, which are usually two of greatest obstacles facing independent and new filmmakers. Our speakers and judges are leaders in the industry and have blazed trails throughout their careers in major broadcast television networks and major film studios and will provide insight to our students, filmmakers and other guests who will be in attendance the festival.

As many of you may not be aware, MCNY is and has been in the process of moving into our new campus at 60 West Street, New York, NY and our Bronx campus at 463 East 149th Street, Bronx, NY, and has been expending significant time ensuring that the facilities were/are ready for students who are currently taking classes as we complete our move. This year, at the same time, we have had the additional good fortune to be inundated by a spectacular 1718 films submitted for consideration to MCNY’s renowned student run Annual Short Film Festival. As such, in the interest of ensuring that each film submitted and the many talented film-makers participating in the 7th Annual Short Film Festival receive the appropriate consideration and attention they and their films deserve, our Film Festival has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 15th, 2016.

To date, the vast majority of film submissions that have been disqualified have been because the submissions exceeded our qualifying 15 minute limit. Therefore, if you have not received an email to date from us about your film submission, you should consider your film still in contention for selection and competition. Announcements about semi finalists will be sent out by August 12, and announcements for Finalists will be made by August 26, 2016.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but want to be sure that we maintain integrity in our selection process and afford your film full consideration for our competition. We wish each film maker good luck in the competition.

Thank you.
