"FNL was a great experience. And it gave me additional courage to quit my job and write full-time. It inspired me in terms of writing and translating. Most importantly, I met many wonderful people there, especially the great women on the organizing team. I'm also very grateful for the contact with Anne Posten, who translated my texts back then. We not only became mutual fans of each other's work, we also became friends." - writer Ulrike Ulrich, FNL 2013 participant.

“FNL brings people together. People who otherwise probably never would’ve met. It gets them talking. FNL creates sympathy. It creates empathy, and ‘lord’ knows the world needs every little bit of empathy in these times to strengthen and patch up the strained and torn social fabric. Therein
lies FNL’s biggest importance for me. I met people at festival neue
literatur, beautiful human beings, I instantly had a deep connection
with, people who I’ll forever carry in my heart. and what are the odds of
something like that happening?!” - Philipp Winkler, FNL 2018
