’s “Missed Call” Opens this Saturday, December 14th, !

Octopuses release ink from their a**s when in danger. Anja Carr's first exhibition in the US includes a brand new installation, consisting of a large inflatable octopus multitasking like a 2019- human with eight different everyday objects in it's tentacles. Carr's custom made sea creature is bathing (or drowning?) in a kid's pool filled with it's own ink, like an oversized toy with dystopian hints to the current climate crisis.
In the twelve photographs of her “Soup” series, shown together for the fist time at GHOST Los Angeles, Carr's face is seen drowning in different soups, matching the installation's dark fluid: She's bathing amongst dead animals, food and microplastics, referring to today's never-ending image feeds, which is also packed with selfies and dishes, potentially leading to environmentally hostile egocentrism.
The title of Carr's solo exhibition; “Missed call” points to one of the octopuses' objects; the old fashion red phone, that kids of today have never seen IRL, but which is still the symbol for “Missed Call”on today's smart phones. What's “missed” is up to you – whether it's the chance of saving the sea-creature from eating our plastic waste or the artist drowning in her overfilled images. @ Ghost Gallery New York - Los Angeles
