This year, The North Film Festival made unforgettable memories with two amazing live editions—first in Barcelona, and then in the heart of New York City. We celebrated independent cinema with outstanding films, passionate filmmakers, inspiring workshops, networking events, and lifelong friendships.

Now, we’re ready for the next chapter!

Elisha Christopher Cecil and Jaren Hemphill deliver a sharp, visually aggressive horror short that turns a familiar cat-and-mouse setup into something far more unsettling.

Amber starts in darkness.

Before we properly see anything, we hear a struggle taking place against a black screen. It is an immediate and effective way to pull the audience in, creating tension before the film reveals where we are or what exactly has happened.

Carlos Vela-Martinez’s sharp comedy-thriller begins like a bedroom nightmare, then twists its tension into something funny, strange and surprisingly revealing about the stories we allow into our lives.

Bedlock knows exactly how to pull an audience in.

The film opens with a slow, carefully controlled travelling shot that moves from the doorway toward the bedroom. The staging, sound and pacing immediately suggest that something terrible is about to happen. There is a distinct horror atmosphere in the way the camera approaches the sleeping couple, creating the expectation of danger before a single major event has unfolded.
