The title refers to the propaganda used to stigmatise Afro-German children and families in the Rhineland after the First World War. Under terms such as Schwarze Schmach am Rhein and later Horror am Rhein, Black presence was deliberately framed as a threat.
With this program, The Museum of Black Futures returns to this history. Not only to remember it, but to question it, disrupt it and open it up.
Through performance, video, music and ritual, the artists selected by the Museum of Black Futures will honour the lives of these children and reclaim the words once used to humiliate them. On this night, ‘Horror’ becomes something else... a language of resilience, a ceremony of remembrance a source of inspiration and hope.
