When organizing Our Sorcery Hour, the vision was clear: to create an accessible, deeply diverse space where the quality of knowledge always comes before commercial scale.

This coming weekend, we are hosting a virtual gathering of 13 distinct workshops led by practitioners who bring genuine depth, respect, and experience to the Craft.

We intentionally kept the registration price low because true community spaces should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation or physical location. This approach aims to make everyone feel welcome and valued, fostering trust in our commitment to accessibility.

In many standard events, attendees are charged steep ticket prices, yet the presenters themselves are rarely paid for their labor, research, and energy. We choose a different, more sustainable model. By keeping our overhead minimal and focusing on what matters, your low-cost ticket directly ensures that every single presenter is fairly compensated for their valuable time and wisdom. It is an act of mutual respect and solidarity.

To help us meet our goal and support fair pay for presenters, but also to raise the same donation numbers as a year ago, we need just a couple more attendees over the next 24 hrs. Your support empowers our community and sustains this space.

Mawiyah Kai EL-Jamah Bomani is an award winning writer, educator, and spirit woman. Mawiyah is an eighth-generation Witch, Egun Medium, and Priestess of OYA in the Yoruba system of spirituality. She is also editor in chief of the culture and Afrikan Traditional Spirituality e-zine, Oya N’Soro. Mawiyah is the host of FishHeadsinRedGravy, a podcast dedicated to celebrating marginalized people of the esoteric/occult world.

Her writings have appeared in numerous magazines, including The Crab Orchard Review, Dark Eros, and Catch the Fire. She has written several plays, including Spring Chickens, which won her the Southern Black Theatre Festival’s 2012-2013 Playwright of the Year Award.

Laura Davila is a fifth-generation Mexican witch, a long-time practitioner of Mexican ensalmeria, hechicería, brujeria, and folk Catholicism. Born and raised in Mexico, Laura has lived in the United States since 2010. Laura identifies as a bruja de rancho, a “ranch witch”, a term with great resonance in Mexico, indicating knowledge of botanicals and the natural world. The author of Mexican Sorcery, Laura is also a tarot card reader and a flower essence practitioner.

Elhoim Leafar (Amazonas, Venezuela) is a multi-traditionalist witch, dowser, tarot reader, and occasional writer.

Elhoim is one of the organizers of Our Sorcery Hour a virtual annual gathering focused on BIPOC & LGBTQ witches, and is the creator of Solitary Wicked Witch on Facebook and on IG; both focused on read & recommend books, review books, and support all-new authors of the craft.

She/Them are a High Priestess, temple tender, traditional witch, teacher, writer, artist, and licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. They are the founder of the School of Traditional Magic, co-founder of the radical witch’s collective The Witches Temple, and co-creatrix of The Living Altar, a beautiful ritual and performance art project.

Workshop. Tending the Community Altar:
Cultivating a Sustainable Practice of Magical Service.

In this mini workshop we will discuss helpful practices to support you and your altar as you offer witch work for others; from divination sessions to personal rituals. So many of us have a calling to support our friends, family and community through the relationships we’ve cultivated in our magic practices; traditional and folk magic are, afterall, also practices of community stewardship. Yet how do we resource our personal practices and magical relationships for the benefit of others? The reality is that even within protocol based systems, the practitioner finds their personal style thru experience. In this workshop we will not be discussing protocols of closed cultural systems, but instead we will discuss principled ways to help you find your personal style of magical service.
