Exciting news! We are one of 20 organizations nationwide to receive a grant from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and Foot Locker Foundation Community Empowerment Program, which supports the well-being of young people and builds the capacity of local nonprofits that serve them.

With this grant, we’ll be able to empower the dancers of It's Showtime NYC to bring authentic street dance education and community connection to NYC's at-risk youth.

We are beyond grateful for this incredible grant!

It has been exceptional to see where the street and club dancers, of our flagship professional development program It's Showtime NYC have performed recently, from Lincoln Center and HarlemStage, to SummerStage and Works & Process at the Guggenheim. The MET Museum was It's Showtime NYC's beloved residency home for a year, and thousands of children have learned authentic street dance forms (pioneered in NYC!) from our professionally trained teaching artists. Our alum are headed to Broadway, leading dance studios, touring internationally as performers and battle champions, and choreographing and pushing the art form forward. This Giving Tuesday please support our groundbreaking program and show your love to NYC's true dance community.

House, vogue, hip hop, flexN, litefeet, krump, and beyond

The Jam Session will bring together generations of NYC’s freestyle dancers into all-styles and flexN cyphers and storytelling, and will feature performances by It's Showtime NYC and our new advanced dancers in our It’s Showtime NYC M.A.A.D initiative. Battle producer Tj RocKa Jamez will dj. We’ll also offer a curated talk hosted by It’s Showtime NYC dancers Bless and Sage with pioneer Storyboard P, who is known for pioneering a unique style often described as “mutation,” blending flexN, animation, surrealism, and raw storytelling. He’s collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, Flying Lotus, and Yasmin Bey (Mos Def) and performed at BAM, MoMA PS1 and is often cited as a living archive of street dance innovation.

Before the close of 2024, Dancing in the Streets wants to ask you to consider supporting a life-changing initiative of our nonprofit.
It’s Showtime NYC! (IST), like no other program, takes into account the creative ambitions and evolving needs of NYC’s talented street dance artists, who, with limited alternatives, got their start performing in packed subway cars and on the streets. Through our program, up to 36 highly-engaged dancers are on a very different trajectory today.

In just under two years, since the dancers collaborated with our Board and staff on a strategic plan, dancers have reached incredible new heights, performing not just on their first stages but at prestigious institutions, including Works & Process at Guggenheim, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Symphony Space, and the MET Museum, to name a few.

As commissioned artists-in-residency IST dancers have travelled to Minnesota, Florida, and throughout NY State to develop works such as Pyramid (premiering Jan 10, 2025 at the Guggenheim) with an original score from experimental cellist/composer Johnathan “Akuma” Moore, who is also an accomplished street dancer.

IST dancers carry with them a sense of community pride and a passion for giving back. At the request of NYC Parks Dept., nonprofits, and public schools, IST dancers share their love of dance with underserved children, helping them to find a creative spark and belief in themselves. IST also organizes free workshops to bring together NYC’s street dance community.

It’s Showtime NYC!’s mission is not just about artistry. It’s about equitably supporting a culture—NYC street dance—that has given the world such inspiration, style, and inexhaustible creativity. Please visit our campaign and consider making a donation from the heart.
