“Music is a great time machine. A song will put you back to where you were when you first heard it.”

Rick Springfield on why music has been essential to his mental health, from picking up a guitar at 13 to the songs that still bring him back to growing up.

Music doesn’t just entertain us. It heals us, grounds us, and connects us to people we’ve never even met.

Grateful for artists like Rick who speak up.

“No matter how alone I might feel, when I go play music with someone, we can communicate. It makes you feel very, very seen.” - Rozzi

Last month, Artist For Action® co-hosted the Youth Mental Wellbeing Design Lab at UCLA, a day built around one simple belief: the arts can heal.

Common opened up about how hip-hop helped him process trauma he had never spoken about out loud. Neil Giraldo walked students through the emotional physics of music, from minor chords to major ones, from darkness to light. Tiger La Flor talked about solitude and staying grounded. Rozzi reminded us that you don’t even have to be a musician to feel what music does to your body.

And on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, students recorded their own tracks about what mental health means to them.

Showing up for the next generation looks like this.

June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, and Artist For Action® is asking every artist in our coalition and beyond to use their platform to honor those impacted by gun violence and advocate for change. 🧡

This month, communities across the country are coming together. Learn the warning signs. Speak up for someone who’s struggling. Help stop tragedies before they start.

Artists like Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow, Peter Frampton, Patti Smith, Nile Rodgers, Peter Gabriel, Everclear, Bootsy Collins, Bush, Aly & AJ, Dave Stewart, and many more have already joined the coalition, because music has always been one of the most powerful forces for change.

Neil Giraldo, Tiger La Flor, Rozzi, and Casey Abrams performed “Come Together” at the Youth Mental Wellbeing Design Lab at UCLA.

“If we choose connection over distance, collaboration over silence, and creativity over complacency, we can turn this era of disconnection into an age of belonging.” - Neil Giraldo

Come Together is a national initiative co-founded by Artist For Action® and the Foundation for Social Connection ACTION NETWORK, harnessing the power of music to address the growing crisis of social isolation and loneliness. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this is what showing up looks like.

Some stories stay with you long after they end.

All the Empty Rooms is one of those. The Academy-winning documentary offers a deeply human look at the lasting impact of gun violence- and the families forever changed by it.

On April 22, join a virtual chat with Mark Barden, Co-Founder of Sandy Hook Promise, Director Josh Seftel, and The Trace as they reflect on the film and what it asks of all of us.

“Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles the man who wields it. It is a sword that heals.” - Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr.

Today, we honor Dr. King’s legacy and the enduring power of his message: that true change comes through nonviolence, community, and collective action.

Artist For Action was founded on these same principles, using the power of music and art to prevent gun violence, strengthen communities, and create lasting change without adding to the cycle of harm.

Dr. King showed us that we each have a role to play in bending the arc toward justice. Today, we honor his legacy by continuing the work.
