The Piper Rare is a rich and decadent wine for the vintage, more so than most – full of honeysuckle and graham cracker, loaded with butter and toasty brioche. Citrus and ginger lurk in the background, along with that classic 2008 vintage backbone and signature salinity.

One of the more recent additions to the landscape of Saint-Émilion, Château Valandraud was the brainchild of Murielle Andraud and Jean-Luc Thunevin. Founded during the 'garagiste' movement in Saint-Émilion, and considered by many as one of the catalysts for said movement, it originally consisted in 1991 of .6 hectares in Fongaban. Growing by leaps and bounds and strength to strength, Valandraud is now considered to be a benchmark of the region, a 'Premier Grand Cru Classé', and the now nearly 9 hectares under vine are situated in such a prime location that it is no surprise that such tremendous wines are produced at this address.
Planted heavily to Merlot and Cabernet Franc (65% and 25% respectively) with a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, the vines are manually cared for and harvested, and the wines are aged, depending on the vintage, for 18 to 30 months in 100% new oak barrels from Aquitaine.
