Before Oktoberfest filled streets, brewery grounds and venues across New Ulm, it began at the Holiday Inn.

More than 40 years ago, the hotel now known as Best Western Plus New Ulm helped start a tradition that has grown into the community-wide celebration we know today. They’ve been keeping the music playing, the dancers moving and the gemütlichkeit going ever since. 🍺🎶

Weekend 2 begins tonight with the Concord Singers, official keg opening, The iPolka Band and Dain’s Dutchmen. The celebration continues Saturday with the Concord Singers and Bockfest Boys.

Make time this weekend to celebrate at the place where New Ulm’s Oktoberfest story began.

One more sleep until Oktoberfest weekend two! 🍻🎶

The celebration continues October 9–10 with two New Ulm institutions that know a thing or two about throwing an Oktoberfest: Best Western Plus and Schell’s Brewery.

Expect German music, dancing, food, drinks and enough gemütlichkeit to carry you through the rest of October.

Downtown was full of polka music, pretzels, and people making memories together. 🍻🥨 From the first song to the last raised stein, you made opening weekend one to remember.

The best part? New Ulm Oktoberfest is only halfway over! Keep those dirndls and lederhosen handy—we’ve got another weekend of celebrating ahead, October 9–10. ❤️

Some people come to Oktoberfest for the music. Others look at a bowl of sauerkraut and think, “I could win this.” 🥬

Our sauerkraut-eating contestants just put their speed, stomachs and life choices to the test—and the crowd loved every bite.

Congratulations to today’s champion, and prost to everyone brave enough to compete!

Friday, you were beautiful. 🍻

The music was loud, the steins were full and downtown New Ulm was packed with people ready to celebrate. Here’s a little photo dump from Night One while we get ready to do it all again.

Downtown Oktoberfest opens at 10 a.m., and the Germanic-American Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. Then stick around for live music, food, steinholding and a full day of festivities downtown.
