1794 Meetinghouse at Old Home Day
The 1794 Meetinghouse will be a big player at the September 12 Old Home Day. At the Meetinghouse, they'll have a "tin can auction." Bidders buy sheets of tickets, and up to 40 nice items will be set out with a tin can (or maybe a jar) in front. Bidders can drop in a ticket for each item they'd like to take home (or maybe several tickets, for a really special item) and the winner will be drawn at the end of the day. In past years the donated prizes have included things like a basket of Italian wine and pasta, art work, camping gear, or a bouquet of fresh flowers. Separate from the tin can auction will be the final raffle ticket sales for a beautiful hand-made quilt by Lynn Dudley. Proceeds from both of these will go to Quabbin Valley Pro Musica, the classical chorus of local singers that performs at the Meetinghouse. At the same time, the Meetinghouse will be selling drinks and snacks near the grilled meals being prepared by the New Salem Fire Department at the fire station, to benefit the Meetinghouse steeple repair fund.
