Summer garden season is officially underway.

This week we planted eggplant, cucumbers, basil, corn, zinnias, and cosmos, a mix of crops that should keep the farm productive, colorful, and endearingly chaotic over the next few months.

One thing that surprises people is how much gardening is really about timing. Plant too early and the weather gets you. Plant too late and the heat gets you. Even after years of doing this, I’m always taking notes from

A lot of the techniques we use are pretty simple: healthy soil, proper spacing, heavy mulch, consistent watering, and choosing varieties that can actually survive a South Louisiana summer. There isn’t usually some secret trick. Most successful gardening comes from doing the basics well and paying attention.

The flowers aren’t just for looks, either. The zinnias and cosmos help attract pollinators and beneficial insects, which benefits everything else growing nearby. The basil helps fill space and is one of the easiest high-value crops to grow. Cucumbers and eggplant love the heat. Corn... well, corn tends to do whatever corn wants to do.

That’s gardening 🌱

For the gardeners out there: what are you planting right now?

And if you’re in the Gulf South, what’s one crop that absolutely crushes it in your garden every summer?

Curious what people’s favorite area of the property is right now. The pond? The flower walls? The banana trees? The back paths? Something else?

One of the coolest things about Paradigm Gardens is how fast the property changes this time of year 🌺

A section of the garden that looked completely different a month ago suddenly explodes with flowers, vines, butterflies, fruit, and plants growing in every direction. Then a few weeks later it changes all over again. A lot of people assume the gardens are permanently manicured, but honestly the space is constantly evolving and a little chaotic in the best way possible.

This reel is a look at some of the flowers, plants, and landscapes around the property this spring. No filters needed.

What I think makes Paradigm feel different from a lot of venues or gardens is that it still feels alive and slightly unpredictable. There are polished areas, but there are also corners where nature is just doing whatever it wants. We’ve tried hard not to over-design the property into something sterile.

A lot of the plants people photograph the most were not even part of some grand master plan. Some were planted years ago and took off unexpectedly. Some reseeded themselves. Some almost died multiple times before deciding they suddenly loved it here.

That’s kind of the fun of gardening in South Louisiana.

Or if there’s a plant in the video you can identify that people keep asking about, drop it in the comments 🌻

Still processing this one! 😋✨

The Chef Showcase on May 19th was such a beautiful way to end a spectacular season of events. The energy felt right from the beginning. Beaucoup talented people doing what they do best in a beautiful space with perfect weather.

Huge thank you to all of the chefs, restaurants, bartenders, musicians, sponsors, staff, and vendors who made this happen 🙌 A lot goes into pulling off an event like this and most people only see the final 3 hours of it. .nola

One of my favorite parts of the night was watching people genuinely take their time. Nobody rushing. People actually talking to chefs. Sitting in the gardens. Going back for another round from the same restaurant because they couldn’t stop thinking about a dish. Peeping the vegetables growing that were in their dishes. Literally stopping to smell the flowers 🌺 That’s the kind of event we’re trying to build.

New Orleans has no shortage of great food events, which means if people are willing to spend their Tuesday night with us, we don’t take that lightly 🙏

Also, the level of talent in this city is honestly ridiculous. Between the food, cocktails, music, and overall creativity at the garden, it was a good reminder of why New Orleans is still one of the most culturally important cities in the country ⚜️

For everyone who came: what was the best thing you ate that night? Or biggest surprise of the event?

Curious what people are still thinking about days later 🤔
