We want to wish MechaCon Anime Convention an awesome final weekend! We are happy to see so many people attending this great convention and hope the send off is everything that it should be. Mechacon has been a beacon of the local and regional convention scene and we will work hard to carry on the hard work of love and care they have shown this great community.

Sawa Con has a big (good) announcement coming down the pipe, with the challenges of covid and then Copeland changing over their business model, we had some challenges but if we haven't proved it before we are resistant to getting thrown some curve balls. Sawa is alive and will be in New Orleans.

Stay tuned, Have fun at mechacon, and enjoy spending time with the friends we have all longed to see again!!

So just to give a small update. Atm we are working out the details with our new venue. With covid etc makes it interesting but we hoping to have some news very soon. Copeland Towers coverting into apartments was rough but hey nothing we havent been through before.

As it stands now there is no event in June and it will be pushed out. 2021 is not out of the picture if we get all the details ironed out

We arise from our hibernation. Sawa has officially began to work on 2021, we will be keeping a close eye on Covid and the developments throughout 2021. Sawa always believes in the total safety of our patrons, guests and staff so coming into Spring we will make sure to keep you all updated!

Here we go.

So i wanted to take a moment and come to you all about the situation that is currently going on with the Coronavirus.

Many of you may not know many conventions have postponed their events. I want to say this now we do not have any plans at this moment of canceling Sawa Con or postponing as our event is Scheduled in June and we hope that this virus is quelled long before our event BUT we will keep everyone posted if such a need does occur due to public health arises.

Now i want to have a heart to heart. I spent 8 years in the military working in the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear field attached to a civil affairs battalion that dealt with many situations across the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Germany during smaller situations like H1N1 and a TB strain that arose out of the blue.

I will say to you all you need to take this situation seriously and appropriately, follow the measures of cleaning your hands frequently, staying home if you feel ill, and avoiding large gatherings it is critically important that you do your part not only for yourself and your family but the others around you. What we need to avoid is the chances of this virus impacting those that have underlying conditions that may prove fatal if they are exposed and hopefully prevent this virus from getting stronger.

Doing this will not only allow events like sawa to happen but other events you enjoy as our agencies work around the clock to silence this monster and keeping all events from having to take measures to keep you safe and not be hives.

I appreciate all your excitement for sawa and we work everyday to make this event bigger and better than last year!!!!

Sawa-Chan got a new look for 2020!

So theres been some hub bub about artist alley and the pricing structure we set.

Last year we canvased and had a public survey that we received feedback. Several artists/vendors i spoke to pointed out significant issues that they experience or wish they didn't have to experience with the scramble that we had last year.

Of the feedback the majority of requests were:

- Lockable room
- Larger space
- Better security (to prevent non pass holders from window shopping and or blocking)
- Power drops
- Earlier setup times (like day before)

and multiples of other comforts that we are going to address

This puts a further significant cost to meet the demand on the convention and frankly put, we shoulder the burden as well. To clear up some statements about us "not thinking" we did, we have reformatted our programming entirely to adjust for costs and since October we have been weighing what needs to go and what gets to stay to make sure the convention can be a success while improving on last year. Our CFO took all the financials into account and bills that will be paid when we began to look at what prices need to be raised and we will agree, we were awful at preparing people for price changes and hikes and for that.

I and the director team are sorry, we were not on an intent to flush out anyone but it must be understood we look at everything and decisions aren't made easily.

As many of you know I believe in transparency and will say now, the prices will be changing as we grow and we are sorry for those that will not be able to purchase artist/vendor tables in the future but we will make any effort we can to keep people included. Sawa con takes on a alot of the burden to keep the prices low and we will continue to do so as much as we can so you all can have a enjoyable convention to call home.

So over the next couple days we will be lowering the prices we have set for tables and passes allocated for those tables.

We will be lowering the cost of the Artists tables to 90 and offering artists that did work with us last year a special rate for ONLY this year for artists that did stick around after the venue lost last year.

This will require us to dump and reset submissions so if you have applied already please stand by as we reset and be prepared to resubmit.

Again I do apologize, many of you were upset that is never the goal with my team or Sawa Con and hopefully we can fix it!

Sawa Con

Sawa Con is a new convention to the Southeast Louisiana area. Started in 2018 Sawa Con is striving to bring the greater south Louisiana Area a new home con for people of the area that will harken back to the days where Anime Cons were just about Anime, Cosplay, and Manga. Where fans could make friends, meet their favorite actors, see amazing artwork, share their passion with new faces, and have a great time. We hope Sawa Con is the con that many fans have been looking for and we hope that Sawa Con will be your new convention home.
