πŸ‘‘ 2026 KREWE OF BOO! KING πŸ‘‘

King James Michalopoulos is a renowned painter, New Orleans cultural champion, and the force behind some of our city's most iconic visual art and creative spaces.

After a career in the cooperative movement that gave way to a life of painting on the road, he was drawn to New Orleans as America's last bastion of hippie bohemia and developed a signature style that captures the rhythm and soul of the streets.

King Michalopoulos' legendary mark on New Orleans includes:

🎷 Designed the official New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival poster a record eight times

πŸ₯ƒ Founded Celebration Distillation, creating the continental United States's first rum distillery since Prohibition

πŸ›οΈ Converted the Old Union Brewery into Orleania Art Studios after Hurricane Katrina

🏨 Opened the award-winning Hotel Pompadour on his Elysian Fields studio campus last year

🏘 Stewards the Michalopoulos Foundation, championing expressive architecture and affordable housing for emerging artists

🎨 Exhibiting "Michalopoulos: Mystical Expressionism" at the historic Cabildo in Jackson Square through September 27, 2026

Check out the aptly-titled PBS documentary "Michalopoulos: The Art of Celebration!" and get ready for a master class as King Michalopoulos rules the streets on Saturday, October 24: linktr.ee/kreweofboo πŸ‘»
