MechaCon Anime Convention

MechaCon Anime Convention After 17 years, MechaCon closed its final show on July 25th of 2021. MechaCon's first five years took place in Lafayette, LA.

MechaCon began as an anime convention that brings together anime, Transformers, and Japanese culture. Since, MechaCon evolved to include fandoms such as Sci-Fi, Comics and Domestic Animation, making it a complete fan experience. In its sixth year, it moved to New Orleans, LA due to growth. For its seventh year, MechaCon established its new home at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside and after it's tw

elfth year, MechaCon relocated to the Hyatt Regency in Downtown New Orleans. This allowed the convention to present more content than ever before. A fan favorite, MechaCon quickly rose through the anime convention ranks to become one of the most prominent anime/fan conventions on the Gulf Coast of the United States. After 16 years of successful shows in the books, MechaCon made its final curtain call on July 25, 2021.

Hello, MechaCon faithful. It’s been a while.

Unfortunately, we come to you with heavy hearts today in our solemn duty to inform you of the passing of one of MechaCon’s own. Kaylin King Wright, who many of you will remember as one of the managers of our Sim Deck electronic gaming room, has tragically passed away at the young age of 33.

Kaylin was a beacon of light in the hallways of MechaCon, always offering a warm and friendly smile to everyone she encountered. On December 9th. Kaylin experienced a devastating medical emergency as she suffered a pulmonary embolism which led to a heart attack. She went into a coma and was placed in ICU as medical professionals worked daily to try and bring her towards the road to recovery. Sadly, the damage was just too great and there was nothing that could be done to save her. With her husband Tim at her side, she left this world on yesterday, December 21st.

Today, our world is a little darker without Kaylin's light in it. She will be missed by MechaCon staff veterans and attendees alike. Kaylin continued being active on the convention circuit in the wake of MechaCon's closing and we believe it is not a stretch to say that, for all the conventions she has worked for, she was more than just a staffer... she was a dear friend. Kaylin is missed and will be forever remembered.

Because this tragedy came unexpectedly, as so many do, Kaylin's family has opened a GoFundMe to help Tim offset Kaylin's medical and funerary expenses. If you are able to help donate in any way, please visit https://gofund.me/2e6d4564c

Good night, sweet Kaylin. You were one of the best of us. 🫡

Congratulations to Anime Conclave on a successful convention weekend! We look forward to seeing them again next year and beyond as they continue to establish themselves in the Gulf Coast convention community.

While at Anime Conclave, our guys were asked if there's any way to still get MechaCon merchandise. And, the answer is YES! MechaCon's online Tee Public shop became MechaJon's MechaCon Mercantile, shortly after our last event. The shop is still open and still filling orders!

So, if you've worn out your favorite MechaCon tee and want something fresh to show your enduring love, look no further!

Shop t-shirts, phone cases, hoodies, art prints and mugs created by independent artists from around the globe.

Our hearts are extremely heavy as we learn more and more about the tragic events which occurred this morning, here in New Orleans. We're keeping our thoughts and prayers with our friends and neighbors during this difficult time as we extend our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families and everyone affected.

New Orleans, our home, is a city of resilience and strength. As we stand together in defiance against this heinous terrorist act, we keep faith in our NOLA community as we recover from this adversity and emerge stronger than before, as we always have.

The MechaCon alumni offer our very best wishes to WasabiCon NOLA for a successful first year anime convention this weekend!

To the various veteran MechaCon staffers working for WasabiCon NOLA, we wish you smooth sailing and clear skies. To the MechaCon attendees headed to WasabiCon NOLA to check out the show, we hope you have an amazing time. Also, don’t forget to pack your MechaCon t-shirts!

Whaaa? Pack our MechaCon T-shirts? What’s that about?

To close out the series of cosplay meetups being hosted by WasabiCon NOLA over the weekend, they’re doing a special MechaCon meetup on Sunday from 4pm to 4:30pm near the Crunchyroll Screening Room. The app listing for this meetup states: “Come in cosplay from a mechanical/giant robot anime OR just wear your old MechaCon t-shirt!”

We humbly thank WasabiCon for including this homage to our show, which came before and for giving our MechaCon family a place where they can gather and reminisce about our event which meant so much to so many.

Good luck, WasabiCon NOLA! You guys got this!

WasabiCon NOLA is being held THIS WEEKEND (May 11-12) at the New Orleans Sheraton Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance online. For more information, visit:

"Heyo! I'm selling my 2017 MechaCon Lamppost Banner.
If anyone is interested, it'll be up for auction for the next few days 😁
These lamp post banners were placed along Poydras St. in New Orleans by the N.O. Convention & Visitor's Bureau in 2017.
Please if you can, share this post as well! I really want this to go to a good home! 💙"

As we prepared to close our show back in 2021, Moncus Park in Lafayette, Louisiana was preparing to do a major structural overhaul to its landscape. As part of this, they offered the community the opportunity to purchase planks along the lake's boardwalk for memorial purposes. With MechaCon having its roots planted in Lafayette, we thought this would make for an enduring tribute. The plank has been in place for nearly two years now, but it wasn't until today that we had the opportunity to seek it out. So, if you ever find yourself at Moncus Park in Lafayette, take a moment to find our tribute plank and take some time to reminisce about your most beloved memories of MechaCon.
