ELM City Fest 2017 Post Mortem. So many great things happened over the weekend. And, as with any event of this size there were some problems. I would rather address the obvious glaring problem and move on with the good news.

We make the same simple deal with every venue. We provide a weekend of thoughtfully chosen original music...free with sound to the venue. We promote it. They open their doors to the event. No money changes hands...except the venue’s bar and food revenue grows. Artists come on good faith...many from out of town and absorb the expense.

We went to the venue months ago....met with a "managing partner", struck an agreement and moved forward. Olives and Oil is not a particularly busy place....but it was packed on both Friday and Saturday. The bands were well received. Then the management shut it down claiming they were expecting acoustic duos. During which time a “cover” duo shows up......only slightly suspicious. We did our best and moved some acts to other venues. But there was some damage.

Unfortunately a couple bands were cut for which they are understandably upset. In defense we as a festival did the exact same thing in that building the night before without being shut down. Apparently our contact with the venue was recently let go a week prior to the festival.
But the real damning fact was that they shut down the Music because they had scheduled another act...Simply...Not our fault.

We recognize that even if it's not our fault, it is our responsibility. So, our sincerest apology to anyone put out due to this. We have grown from this and will make sure something like this doesn’t happen again in the future.

We thank everyone who was a part of this event and helped made the rest of the festival a success. Our panelists, attendees, volunteers and artists alike. Looking forward to making next year even better.
