We’re happy to welcome back Comal Conservation, Comal County Friends of the Night Sky, and welcome new participants, the The Mermaid Society of Texas to this year’s Event!
The Land and Sky Celebration is an annual benefit that helps to raise money and bring awareness to our area non-profit organizations that advocate for environmental conservation and preservation. Hill Country, and especially our area, contains a fragile ecosystem that as good stewards, we must protect now and for future generations.
Comal Conservation (CC) aims to “educate, engage, and encourage our community to join the effort to preserve land, water, and wildlife in Comal County.” Our pristine part of Texas is inviting not only to flora and fauna, but to development. And although everyone talked about the growth, no real effort was made to address and help to preserve our county’s natural resources until concerned people came together to form The Comal County Conservation Alliance — the first-ever conservation nonprofit organization in Comal County. The organization refreshed its brand and is now called Comal Conservation. The CC will share more at this year’s event about how we can all work together to preserve the natural aspects of our county and retain the rural, scenic appeal that makes Comal County special.
More about The CC can be found online at comalconservation.org or here on Facebook.
Comal County Friends of the Night Sky was formed by a group of concerned Comal County residents, who are working on several initiatives to facilitate night sky friendly lighting, to preserve and improve the stunning night sky of the Texas Hill Country. Preserving the night sky and reducing light pollution in our community is important to the overall goals of environmental conservation.
Comal County’s Friends of the Night Sky will be sharing information - and more – at The Land and Sky Celebration, about how we can help to protect our community from light pollution and become a Dark Sky-Friendly Community.

The Mermaid Society of Texas, headquartered in San Marcos, is joining us for the first time this year. The organization champions the preservation and celebration of the San Marcos River by inspiring eco-friendly community values and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility. Through creative, youth-focused programming and imaginative engagement, they empower communities to take pride in the cultural and ecological treasures of the Mermaid Capital of Texas and to protect them for generations to come.
The Mermaid Society of Texas aims to inspire a wave of environmental guardianship through art, education, and cultural celebration—uniting communities to cherish, protect, and preserve the San Marcos River and its natural wonders. Through the power of creative advocacy, they see The Mermaid Capital of Texas becoming a nationally recognized eco-friendly city, where sustainability, stewardship, and civic pride flow together in harmony.
