Today we recognize Garrett Alderson as one of our Grand Champions from last year. Garrett is a member of Team SWAT. He is a fierce competitor and has been tearing up the tournament circuit this year. Garrett will be returning this year to defend his title.

Today we are recognizing Zachary Davis. Zachary was one of our Grand Championship winners last year. Zachary is a Black Belt from Long’s Shotokan out of Kansas City. We are excited to announce that he will be returning to this year’s Southwest Classic to defend his title. We’re super excited to have him back. Let’s Go!!!

About this time we start getting a lot of questions about what gear is required for sparring. Here you go! There’s never a good excuse for showing up and holding up a ring because you didn’t know what gear was required. The last thing we ever want to see is a child or teenager all stressed out right before they fight because they are frantically trying trying to borrow the correct gear from someone else.
As a judge I see it all too often.

So please make sure you know what is required and make sure they pack everything they need. As a competitor I used to go through all of my gear the night before and made sure I had everything. Yes granted back then we didn’t have as much gear as we do today but the process is still the same.
