SwimRunners,
We really appreciate everyone reaching out and we apologize for the delay in response. However, we want to update everyone on the status of SwimRun Lake James.
As most of you are aware, Hurricane Helene impacted Western North Carolina and unfortunately, our course and the state park was not spared.
We have had a some communication with the Fire Department and State Park and it is not in great shape. Most if not all folks have power back, but there is a tremendous amount of clean up within the course/park.
We've not been given permission to access the park or outlying areas where we race. We do hope to see it, but that is likely in December or January. According the the State Park website:
"All trails in the park are closed due to devastation from Hurricane Helene.
All biking trails, including the state park's section of the Fonta Flora State Trail, are closed due to devastation from Hurricane Helene."
Additionally, we are not comfortable pulling local resources to volunteer or work our event.
With this said, it comes with a heavy heart that we will probably not be able to race in 2025. The team will keep you posted with any updates.
