U.S. Travel Names Tennessee’s Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker 2013 Tourism Director of the Year
Commissioner Susan Whitaker, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, was named 2013 State Tourism Director of the Year by the U.S. Travel Association’s National Council of State Tourism Directors. The announcement was made during lunch Monday, Aug. 19 at the U.S. Travel Association’s Educational Seminar for Tourism Organizations in Richmond, VA.

The State Tourism Director of the Year Award is presented annually to the state tourism director who contributes to successfully raising the profile of their state as a travel and tourism destination, selecting the individual exhibiting the most impressive achievements. It's a unique honor as a fellow state tourism director makes the nomination and the top three nominations are sent to the entire organization for a vote.

“I am so honored to receive this special recognition from the U.S. Travel Association and my fellow state tourism directors,” said Whitaker. "I recognize this is a reflection of the talent and dedication of my entire team at the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. It's their innovation and hard work that has made us so successful. I can't wait to get back to Nashville to celebrate with them."

Nicky Reynolds has resigned as the executive director of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission.

Nicky Reynolds has resigned as the executive director of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commission. Her final day in Lebanon will be April 12.

Reynolds submitted her resignation March 18. Her last day in Lebanon will be April 12. She will be moving to Rutherford County, Tenn., where she will become the vice president of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Reynolds was hired in January of 2012, and she started working in Lebanon in Feb. 13, 2012. She came to Lebanon from the Oak Ridge (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Brad Lanham, the chairman of the Lebanon Tourist and Convention Commisison, submitted a press release announcing Reynolds resignation this morning.

He noted that Reynolds and the tourism staff "have revamped the tourism webpage; increased social media efforts and awareness; created a new tourism map, quilt brochure, and various event publicity pieces; recruited events like the Warrior Dash and the Color in Motion 5k; and started recruiting bus and group tours to the area. In addition, several new marketing initiatives including 'The Heart of the Bourbon Belt' and 'The Spirits of Lebanon' have been created to cater to specific niche markets. Under Reynolds’ supervision, new professional photography was utilized to enhance LTCC’s marketing efforts."

Reynold also served as the marking chair of the Bourbon, Horses & History Region, and she was a member of the the legislative and communications committees for the Kentucky Travel Industry Association. Reynolds also worked with the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus as the social media chairwoman.

"Although we are sad to see her go, we truly wish her the best in her future endeavors," Lanham wrote. "Nicky is an extremely talented individual, with a great vision on how to move tourism efforts forward. She has been a positive impact to our commission and community in implementing the social media and marketing skills we identified in her hiring process."

"We enjoyed working with Nicky over the past year, and we hate to see her leave, but we’re also pleased with the work she has produced for the tourism office during her time here. We are a better commission for having her as executive director."
