Plumerians Worldwide to Gather at the 2nd International Plumeria Conference

The Plumeria Society of America (PSA) and Naples Botanical Garden are pleased to announce the 2nd International Plumeria Conference (IPC), tentatively scheduled for May 18-22, 2016. The site of the 2016 IPC is the renowned Naples Botanical Garden in Naples, Florida (www.naplesgarden.org). The Garden hosts the National Pl

umeria Collection, with over 500 plumeria trees. Field trips to other notable plumeria sites in the area are in the planning stages. More information coming soon! Since the first conference in Galveston, almost 10 years ago, advances in plumeria cultivation and cultivar development have come fast and furious. The conference will gather the best minds in the plumeria world to share their knowledge and experience with plumeria enthusiasts - from hobbyists to vendors. The conference steering committee (Eulas Stafford, Hetty Ford, Tex Norwood, Karen Babb, and Mike Atkinson) is working closely with the PSA to craft an innovative, stimulating mix of workshops and presenters. The conference will also feature a closing luau, and other fun surprises, including the introduction and auction of a new variety named in honor of the conference. Make your plans to attend now! Go to the beginning of the conference website (www.2016IPC.com) and sign up for our email list for future news and notifications, including special conference rates at nearby hotels. We hope to see you in Naples next year!

I just talked to Kay Norwood and Tex made it through the night!

The doctor said people with this disease can survive this. He’s still on life support so that he can stay at rest and build up his strength. They will be doing a complete plasma exchange today, which he responded really well to on Sunday.

So keep those thoughts and prayers coming. Kay said they’re working!

Thanks

[For those who didn't see last night's post, this is regarding Tex Norwood, partner at Florida Colors Plumeria. He has an autoimmune disease, contracted pneumonia, and is on life support.]

Kay, Tex Norwood's wife, just let us know that he is on life support at the hospital.

He has been struggling with his health for a while, and was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. But last week he caught pneumonia and has slipped since then.

Please direct your thoughts and prayers to this fine, upstanding man, and a fine plumerian who has helped so many of us.

A huge loss today for the international plumeria community with the passing of Eulas Stafford. A great plumerian, but more important, a wonderful person who spread aloha. He will be so missed. Here are photos of Eulas at the two International Plumeria Conferences that would NOT have happened without him.

Car Herzog is blazing a trail in using aquaponics for incredible growth of plumeria seedlings.

The day before the Conference began, we were fortunate to tour one of the largest plumeria nurseries. Rain didn't damper our spritis, as the amazing array of blooms overwhelmed our senses.

We couldn't always get to the name tags. So if we don't know the variety name, it is left blank...

Big thanks to Dr. Chad Husby, Botanical Horticulturist at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, for sharing his adventures locating and propagating an elusive plumeria species, Plumeria magna, which has been seen growing as tall as 90 feet! And deepest appreciation for his donation of a P. magna plant to the Naples Botanical Garden.
