Learning a lot about shading and gradients every time I sling some paint on an impression 🔥

The dorsal spine on a triggerfish is usually nestled in a groove on its back and when threatened, raises up and locks in place. In order to release the erect spine, the fish relaxes the second spine which unlocks it like a triggering mechanism which allows it to fold back into the dorsal groove.

With the interlocking pinecone like scales of the triggerfish resembling armor, it’s a tough meal to take a bite out of. Evolution at its finest 🔥
