We Welcome Fred Chambers serving as Myrtle Beach City Government Chief of Police.
NEWS RELEASE
INCOMING POLICE CHIEF FREDERICK CHAMBERS TO BEGIN SEPT. 18; SWEARING-IN SET FOR OCT. 2
Incoming Myrtle Beach Police Chief Frederick Chambers will begin his employment with the City of Myrtle Beach on Friday, Sept. 18.
Chambers expressed his excitement to get started and begin serving the Myrtle Beach community. He also wanted the opportunity to be in a Myrtle Beach Police Department uniform alongside his fellow officers to meet and greet the community during the city’s upcoming National Night Out event.
As part of the transition, Chambers will participate in a brief administrative swearing-in Monday, Sept. 21, with Chief Municipal Judge Glenn Ohanesian. This will allow Chambers to formally assume the duties and responsibilities of Myrtle Beach police chief while he begins getting acclimated to the department, city operations and community.
The community is invited to celebrate Chambers during his formal swearing-in ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Ocean Reef Resort, 7100 North Ocean Boulevard. The ceremony will mark the official public recognition of Chambers as Myrtle Beach’s police chief, with seating available for up to 300 guests.
Ocean Reef Resort is providing space for the ceremony as a courtesy to the city because the Myrtle Beach Convention Center is fully booked. Additional details about the ceremony, including a parking map, will be shared soon.
Chambers comes to Myrtle Beach with more than 26 years of law enforcement experience. He most recently served as a deputy chief with the Fairfax County Police Department in Northern Virginia. His career also includes service in the U.S. Marine Corps and as a uniformed police officer with the U.S. Secret Service. You can review his full resume here.
National Night Out is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The free, family-friendly event gives residents an opportunity to meet Chambers, Myrtle Beach police officers, firefighters and other city personnel.
MEDIA AVAILABILITY: During his first two weeks, Chambers’ schedule will be focused on transitioning into his new role, meeting with Myrtle Beach Police Department personnel and becoming acclimated to the department and community. To allow him that time, media interviews will not be scheduled prior to the Oct. 2 formal swearing-in ceremony.
Chambers will be briefly available to media members immediately following the Oct. 2 ceremony. Additional interview opportunities will begin opening in the weeks that follow, and scheduling information will be provided to media outlets at that time.
